Tdn Australia Handicap 2020
Race 1, Friday, July 31st, 1:10pm
A handicap confined to three year olds only, rated as a class 3 and run over the trip of one mile three furlongs and 44 yards. Prize money for the winner is £9,452 and the betting is sure to be a very accurate guide (with plenty of these well bred types being laid out for valuable handicaps this summer).
Oak Tree Stakes 2020
Race 2, Friday, July 31st, 1:45pm
With £80,000 in prize money, this seven furlong Group 3 for fillies and mares is always a well supported prize during the week. Open to three year olds and upwards, the runners are set to carry 8 stone 11lb (3-y-o) or 9 stone 3lb (4-y-o+). Previous Group 1 winners have a 7lb penalty to lump, (5lb for Group 2 and 3lb for Group 3).
Thoroughbred Stakes 2020
Race 3, Friday, July 31st, 2:15pm
This one mile Group 3 contest is open to three year olds only, with the prize money recently upgraded to £100,000. Group 1 winners are not allowed to run, and there is a 7lb penalty for previous Group 2 winners (4lb for Group 3). Runners are to carry 9 stone 1lb, with a 3lb allowance for fillies and mares.
Unibet Mile 2020
Race 4, Friday, July 31st, 2:45pm
A Class 2 heritage handicap, run over a mile and open to three year olds and upwards. With the prize money rising year on year (£150,000 in 2019) this is always a fascinating puzzle to solve for punters, with unexposed 3-y-o’s locking horns with some more established high class handicappers.
King George Stakes 2020
Race 5, Friday, July 31st, 3:15pm
A five furlong Group 2, open to three year olds and upwards and with prize money of £312,000. This high quality race usually features Royal Ascot runners from the Kings Stand, and has been dominated by Bataash for the last three years. 3-y-o carry 8 stone 13lb while 4-y-o+ are allotted 9 stone 2lb. There is a 3lb allowance for fillies and mares, while Group 1 winners are penalised 5lb (3lb for Group 2).
Glorious Stakes 2020
Race 6, Friday, July 31st, 3:45pm
This Group 3 is open to four year olds and upwards, run over one mile four furlongs and usually attracting a small field of runners who are just below top class and tricky to place as a result (rated too high for handicaps but struggle to compete in Group 1 or 2 class). All runners carry 9 stone 1lb, with a 3lb allowance for fillies and mares. Group 1 winners incur a 7lb penalty, Group 2 5lb and Group 3 3lb.
Nursery Stakes 2020
Race 7, Friday, July 31st, 4:20pm
Always a fiercely contested handicap for two year olds only, with £25,000 in prize money and a wide open betting heat on the cards every year. Astute punters will have watched the early races in the week to see if there is any draw bias on the straight course, but usually on fast ground it pays to concentrate where the pace is.
Maiden Fillies Stakes 2020
Race 8, Friday, July 31st, 4:55pm
A one mile four furlong Class 3 handicap for three year olds only, usually attracting a big field of promising 3-y-o’s chasing the generous £25,000 in prize money.
Glorious Goodwood 2020 Day 4 Races
Three Group 3s, one Group 2 and three huge field handicaps make the betting ultra-competitive on the Friday at Glorious Goodwood. The highlight comes at 3.35 with the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes, with some of the fastest sprinters in the world chasing an incredible £300,000 in prize money. The Sussex crowd has been wowed by the brilliance of Battaash landing this valuable prize for the past three years, and he seems sure to be a very short price to complete a remarkable four timer after bolting up in the Kings Stand at Royal Ascot in June.
