Glorious Goodwood Day 5 Tips - Race Times & Fixtures
Glorious Goodwood Day 5 Tips for Saturday
The final day of Glorious Goodwood would normally attract a massive crowd to the Sussex downs, but with racing behind closed doors in 2020 very much the new normal it promises to be a much more subdued affair. The Stewards Cup at 3.40pm is one of the big betting heats of the week, with a massive field of very useful sprinters lining up to contest this prestigious prize.

Stewards Sprint Handicap 2020
Race 1, Saturday, August 1st, 1:50pm
A competitive Class 2 six furlong handicap for three year olds and upwards, with the £75,000 in prize money always attracting some useful sprinters (who should be at their peak in mid-summer).
Unibet Summer Handicap 2020
Race 2, Saturday, August 1st, 2:25pm
A stamina test run over one mile six furlongs, open to three year olds and upwards who are chasing £100,000 in prize money. For a Class 2 the money on offer is exceptional, and the sponsorship of Qatar have undoubtedly added to the quality of the event in recent years.
Lillie Langtry Stakes 2020
Race 3, Saturday, August 1st, 3:00pm
The only Group race on the day, open to three year olds only and run over one mile four furlongs. All runners are to carry 9 stone 1lb, with a 3lb allowance for fillies and a 7lb penalty for previous Group 1 winners (5lb for Group 2 and 3lb for Group 3).
Stewards Cup 2020
Race 4, Saturday, August 1st, 3:35pm
A Class 2 heritage handicap run over six furlongs and open to three year olds and upwards. Some of the most upwardly mobile sprint handicappers will be primed for this day, with a maximum field certain in pursuit of £250,000 in prize money (winner alone received £155,625 in 2019).
Qatar Handicap 2020
Race 5, Saturday, August 1st, 4:10pm
A Class 2 seven furlong maiden stakes, for two year olds only (who have not previously won a race), run over seven furlongs and with generous prize money of £30,0000 in total.
Breeders Fund Maiden Stakes 2020
Race 6, Saturday, August 1st, 4:40pm
A seven furlong Class 2 handicap, confined to three year olds only and with an impressive £30,000 on offer in prize money. The late betting market is usually a good guide, with several yards bringing along these progressive performers with valuable handicaps in mind.
Apprentice Handicap 2020
Race 7, Saturday, August 1st, 5:10pm
A Class 3 handicap for apprentice riders only, run over one mile one furlong and open to three year olds and upwards. There were 17 runners attracted in 2019, and racing space is often at a premium up the straight, with the varying skill levels of the young riders severely tested.
Glorious Goodwood 2020 Day 5 Races
The biggest crowd of the week would usually be gathered for Saturday at Glorious Goodwood, but this year is sure to have a very strange eerie feel, with perhaps just a few picniccers scattered on Trundle Hill overlooking the racecourse. The action on the track will be far from subdued, with huge fields certain for five red hot and competitive handicaps. The highlight of the day betting wise will be The Stewards Cup at 3.40pm, with the bookmakers sure to offer at least 10/1 the field in this unfathomable sprint. Astute punters will have noted any draw bias in the preceding races up the straight, but that might not make matters any easier, with luck in running sure to play a part. In 2019 Charlie Hills Khaadem landed a hefty gamble for the punters, backed down to 4/1 favourite in a field of 27, and justifying that confidence in style under a cool ride from Jim Crowley.
