Stephen Harris’ Albany Stakes Preview

A two year old Group 3 sprint over six furlongs and confined to fillies only. With prize money of £90,000 this provides smaller yards with an opportunity to land a prestigious prize, and Mick Channon has a particularly good record (winning the race three times with Silcas Gift (2003), Nijoom Dubai (2007) and Samitar (2011).

Albany Stakes Tips 2020

Mother Earth, Albany Stakes Tip #1

Aidan O’Brien’s filly was raw and easy to back on her Navan debut earlier in the month, but shaped really well in a closing second to the frontrunning winner Frenetic. She is sure to improve dramatically for that initial experience, and it is significant that her astute trainer has chosen this race as her target.

Setarhe, Albany Stakes Tip #2

Roger Varian’s filly only narrowly landed the cash on her recent debut at Newmarket, but she was produced late under a confident ride there from Andrea Atzeni and looked value for a lot further than the bare result.

Albany Stakes Winners

A relatively recently addition to the Royal Ascot meeting, founded in 2002 and originally run as a listed contest named the Henry Carnavon Stakes. It became the Albany Stakes in 2003 and became a Group 3 in 2005. Jamie Spencer has a terrific record in the race, winning it four times in total, and he will be hoping to be back in the saddle in 2020 (if recovering from a nasty hip injury sustained on the gallops in the spring).
