Stephen Harris’ Norfolk Stakes Preview

A competitive Group 2 for two year olds only, run over the five furlong sprint trip and with over £100,000 in prize money up for grabs (over £56,000 to the winner alone). The big stables target the race with some of their best juveniles, but Simon Crisford did land a breakthrough winner in 2019 when his very useful A’Ali took the prize under Frankie Dettori.

Norfolk Stakes 2020 Trends

  1. 15 of the last 18 winners won their previous race
  2. 12 of the last 18 favourites ran a place
  3. Only 1 of the last 18 winners did not finish in the first two places their previous race

Norfolk Stakes Tips 2020

Eye of Heaven, Norfolk Stakes Tip #1

Mark Johnston’s strapping colt landed hefty market confidence when winning on his debut at Newmarket in June, overcoming a track bias as he raced alone up the middle and breaking the track record in the process. He was value for a lot further than the relatively narrow margin of victory, and has plenty of size about him to suggest there will be loads of improvement to come as he gathers more racing experience.

Lipizanner, Norfolk Stakes Tip #2

This two year old has already suffered two expensive defeats, but he had to go ten wide when turned over at 4/6f last time and seems sure to put his battle hardened experince to good use here.
