Daniel Dubois takes on Joe Joyce in a heavyweight battle of two unbeaten British prospects on Saturday, November 28, 2020. 23-year-old Daniel Dubois (15-0-0, 14 KO's) is a rising prospect and most pundits already see him as a future heavyweight champion. He is a tremendous athlete with good hand speed and brutal punching power which are the reasons that only 3 of his fight went past the 4th round. He likes to soft up his opponents with a blistering jab and then blow them out with left hooks and straight right hands. However, he has not fought a lot of quality opposition yet. His best wins came against Nathan Gorman, who has not fought any good opponents himself, and former heavyweight title contender Kevin Johnson. In the bout with Johnson, he went the 10 round distance for the first time and he looked winded in the second half of the fight which raises questions about his stamina. At this stage of his career, Daniel Dubois remains relatively untested. 35-year-old Joe Joyce (11-0-0, 10 KO) is a latecomer to the sport of boxing and turned professional after winning the silver medal in the 2016 Olympics. He is not very athletic and most experts are skeptical because of his advanced age. However, he has a lot of amateur experience and possesses huge punching power as he has stopped 10 of his 11 opponents so far. Joyce has also fought better opponents than his younger counterpart. As an amateur, he gave Oleksandr Usyk, who is considered one of the best heavyweights in the world, a very competitive fight. In the professional ranks, he beat highly regarded fighters like former heavyweight contenders Alexander Ustinov and Bryant Jennings as well as former World Champion Bermane Stiverne. In the Jennings fight, he proved that he can go the 12-round distance with relative ease. The public narrative is that Daniel Dubois has too much speed and power for an old and slow Joe Joyce and that the younger man will cement his status as a top contender in the divison by an early KO. However, I feel that this fight is badly mispriced and that Joe Joyce should be favored because of his edge in experience and stamina. Of course, Dubious speed and power will be very dangerous early in the fight and a lot of his victims did not make it past the 3rd round. But if Joyce can weather the early storm I think he will figure out the angles of Daniel Dubois's attack and Joyce's superior boxing ability will take over the fight. Dubious chin has not been tested by a puncher like this and he has never fought the full 12-round distance. If he can not finish Joyce early he might fade in the second half of the fight and lose by decision or even late stoppage. Joe Joyce is 12 years older than Daniel Dubious but heavyweight age more slowly and he might still be in his prime. At 23, Dubious has not hit his prime yet and is still very inexperienced. These two guys have already sparred with each other so Joyce will not be surprised by anything that Dubious brings to the table. This should make it a lot easier for him to survive the early rounds and take over the fight later. This fight has come too early for Daniel Dubios and that is why I am taking Joe Joyce to pull the upset in a fight where he should be the favorite in my opinion.
