La Tricolor have had a stellar World Cup qualifying campaign so far. They are more than close to booking their ticket to Qatar this winter and a win against Brazil will tip them closer to that goal.
Here are our expert World Cup predictions for the coming matchup between Ecuador and Brazil.
The host nation of Ecuador currently sits in the third spot of the South American World Cup qualifiers. After 14 games, they are six points clear of Colombia and lagging behind Argentina by six, who have a game in hand.
Ecuador are on a three-game unbeaten streak. More precisely, on a two-game win streak. They won their two most recent qualifying matches against Venezuela at home (1:0) and Chile away (2:0).
Meanwhile, Brazil is leading the South American qualifications and are almost through. A win versus Ecuador will most surely propel them to Qatar. Seleção has not lost a game during this qualification round and has 11 wins as well.
Their last game was against longtime rivals Argentina, but the Superclássico das Américas was a disappointing affair as it finished without any goals and the two sides splitting points. Prior to that game, Brazil recorded two home wins against Uruguay (4:1) and Colombia (1:0).
Ecuador has a really bad record against Brazil. Actually, La Tri has only two wins versus Brazil out of 34 outings. The last time Ecuador won against Brazil was in 2004 when they won at home by 1:0.
Brazil holds a record of 27 wins when playing Ecuador. In fact, they are on an 11-game undefeated streak against them. Their first game in these qualifiers played in Brazil ended in favour of the home team thanks to goals coming from Richarlison and Neymar. However, their most recent game at the 2021 Copa America was a draw (1:1).
Real Madrid defender Eder Militão gave Brazil the lead. But Ángel Mena scored in the second half to earn Ecuador a point.
Brazil and Ecuador are the two most efficient teams in these World Cup qualifications in South America. Brazil has scored 27 goals in 13 games. While Ecuador managed 23 in 14. However, Brazil’s defence has been a lot better as they have allowed only four goals. On the opposite end, Ecuador’s defence has capitulated 13 times already. Making them the third-best defending team.
Brazil’s captain Neymar Jr. has made 15 goal contributions during 13 games so far. He scored seven and assisted eight. Unfortunately for Seleção, they are most likely going to be without him for this matchup. Gabriel Jesús and Vinícius Júnior are expected to take over attacking duties in this matchup.
On the opposing side, Ecuador’s attacker Michael Estrada has scored five times so far. He has Moisés Caicedo (4 assists) and Ángel Mena (3 assists) to thank for providing him with goal opportunities.
It is very unlikely for Ecuador to grab a win even if they are playing at home (3.40). Choosing Brazil could be a great addition to your accumulator bet (2.39).
A better choice would be Away Team Win to Nil at 3.52. Even without Neymar in their ranks, Brazil is still a tough customer and we do think that their defence is going to hold up.
