Here at Bettingexpert, we have a prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview ahead of the match between Denmark vs Spain. It’s expected to be an intriguing encounter with the away side favourites for all three points.
Brian Riemer is in the dugout for the first time as the Denmark boss. He’ll be desperate to start on a high. His side has the capabilities to keep Spain at bay. Luis de la Fuente will not have Lamine Yamal in Copenhagen.
Europe, UEFA Nations League, Friday, November 15th, 19:45 (UK)
The Euro 2024 champions are back in action. Luis de la Fuente’s men visit Copenhagen as they take on Denmark at Parken Stadium. Spain has been excellent across the last 18 months. They haven’t lost a competitive clash since March 2023. I’m expecting that unbeaten streak to continue.
These nations met a little over a month ago. Spain won the contest narrowly. Martin Zubimendi’s late strike was enough to separate the two teams. Statistically, Spain was dominant. The eventual winners enjoyed 61% possession, won the shot count 25-3 and created five big chances. I don’t expect the upcoming encounter to be as one-sided. The Danes are wise and compact. Brian Riemer’s men will be tough to beat in the capital.
Spain are 1.80 favourites. It’s an understandable price but one I’m willing to swerve. Can Denmark defeat the Spanish? I’m not so sure. Backing the draw isn’t something I usually select. On this occasion, it looks like a valuable price. The visitors are without Lamine Yamal, whilst Alvaro Morata is doubtful. A low-scoring affair is likely, making the draw at 3.60 appealing.
Dani Carvajal’s injury sees him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. Tottenham’s Pedro Porro has occupied the right-back spot. Porro is far more adventurous than the Real Madrid man. I’d expect the 25-year-old to start in defence for Spain. He’s shown impressive performances in both appearances for the national team.
Pedro Porro loves getting into a shooting position. His consistency has been impressive across the 24/25 season. The Spurs man has recorded a shot in nine matches from 11 in the Premier League, an average of 1.73 per 90. He had two shots in the reverse fixture and three against Serbia. Porro is available at 1.44 for a single attempt, an appealing price for a bet builder approach.
Again, I’m not expecting a thriller between these two. Combining a lack of goals with Pedro Porro unleashing a shot creates a lovely-looking angle. Two of Spain’s 11 competitive matches in 2024 have seen four or more goals. Georgia and Switzerland were beaten 4-1 by the European champions. The Georgians were well beaten in the summer. Switzerland have looked way off the pace since their elimination in Germany.
The hosts can keep this tight. There are often few goals when they go up against the top nations. One of eight encounters this calendar year has witnessed four goals. All six of their Nations League matches last time out saw three goals or less.
It’s relatively tricky to find any attractive angles for this clash. I’m backing Christian Eriksen to play a vital part at Parken Stadium. The midfielder seems to step up when playing for the national team. Each of his previous five goal contributions has arrived in continental action.
The Manchester United man was excellent when his side faced Switzerland at St Gallen. Eriksen scored and assisted that night in a 2-2 draw. Christian scored once at Euro 2024 and recorded four goal contributions in Euro Qualification.
Christian Eriksen has scored 43 goals for his nation. It’s an impressive record. He was kept quiet in that recent encounter with Spain just like his side were. Eriksen still created a chance in that dominant display from the Spaniards.
I expect the number 10 to be on set-piece duties. We know about Eriksen’s qualities. He can pick out a target with ease and has a superb strike. The former Spurs man will be on penalty duty.
This clash is likely to be tight. A set piece or penalty kick could be the difference. It seems a decent price for a player of that quality.
Denmark vs Spain Prediction odds via bet365 as at 09:00, November 13th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
The hosts have one significant injury concern. Wolfsburg’s Joakim Maehle will not feature. The full-back has a hip injury and won’t return until December.
A similar style is likely from Brian Riemer. It’s his first game as Denmark boss. He’ll want to set off on a positive note.
We won’t see Lamine Yamal in this encounter. The superbly talented teenager has an ankle injury. Alvaro Morata is doubtful. That’s two key forward options.
The Spanish defence will likely be the same. Zubimendi is set to anchor the midfield.
Denmark possible starting lineup:
Schmeichel; Kristensen, Vestergaard, Nelsson, Bah, Eriksen, Hojbjerg, Hjulmand, Isaksen, Gronbaek, Hojlund
Spain possible starting lineup:
Raya; Porro, Vivian, Laporte, Cucurella, Zubimendi, Merino, Ruiz, Baena, Williams, Oyarzabal
