Portugal are coming to the Euros with one of the strongest and most talented squads. They are being led by the all-time Euros scorer Cristiano Ronaldo, who will play at his sixth European Championship. This team already knows how to win, as they already won it in 2016. But this team is a lot more talented than the one eight years ago, so a lot is expected from Portugal this year.

As one of the previous winners of the Euros, Portugal are coming in hot. Their aim is to go all the way once again. But they have to take things one step at a time.

The Portuguese team is absolutely stacked. They have players that cover all positions and star-level substitutes just in case something happens. If you want to go into details, our Euro 2024 expert insights might be the right place.
Portugal was the most dominant team in the qualifiers. They finished everything without losing a single point. They won all 10 of their games and allowed only two goals in the process.

Portugal broke their 12-game winning streak with a loss to Slovenia. Luckily, the 2:0 loss was in a friendly, and A Seleção das Quinas bounced back in the very next game against Finland, whom they defeated by 4:2.
Portugal has too many quality players to count. They are simply covered at every position, meaning that you don’t know from where you need to defend. Roberto Martínez is going to have a lot of trouble deciding on the starting 11.
The main player in Portugal’s squad is Cristiano Ronaldo. He is the all-time Euros top scorer and could become the top assist-maker at this tournament as well. Even at age 39, he still has a lot to give and if he scores, he will become the first player to do so at six different European competition tournaments.
Alongside him, the playmaker of the team will be Bruno Fernandes. He facilitates the offence and moves things forward. Bruno is the team’s main playmaker and no matter the season that he had at Man Utd, he always gives it his all when he plays for Portugal.
According to Portugal’s schedule, they are starting their Euros campaign against the Czech Republic in Group F.
Portugal’s Otávio has unfortunately picked up an injury prior to the start of the tournament. Coach Roberto Martinez reacted by calling in Man City’s Matheus Nunes as a replacement. Actually, many people already saw Nunes as the prime selection, so it was a surprise that he was left out. Nevertheless, it seems that he will be making his first Euros appearance with Portugal this year.
With Roberto Martínez as coach and all the talent they have at their disposal, there is only one way that Portugal can play – All out attack. They are a team that knows how to score goals at will and at the same time they have a stellar defence. They went through the qualification stage by dismantling every opponent that they came across. It is very likely that they will keep doing more of the same, particularly in a group with seemingly weaker opponents.
The Euro 2024 Portugal team will either play in a 4-3-3 system or a 4-1-4-1 system. Actually, they have the ability to transform swiftly from one formation to the other. But it will be interesting to see if they start Cristiano Ronaldo as their lone striker from the first game. Gonçalo Ramos occupies that position equally well, and with the season he has had, he just might be the first-choice forward for Portugal.
Portugal has had much more success at the Euros compared to the World Cup. While they are a staple at both competitions since 1996, they both won and came closer to winning the Euros than the World Cup.
Portugal will be appearing at their 9th European Championship, which makes it eight one in a row. On the other hand, they have gone to seven World Cups so far. Since 2002, they haven’t missed a single one and have been there six times in a row.
As far as success goes, the biggest achievement at the World Cup was winning fourth place in Germany in 2006. However, when it comes to the Euros, they are a much better team there. They won the competition in 2016, were runner-ups in 2004, while also reaching the semi-finals in 1984, 2000, and 2012.
