The Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins will begin this three-game series on Monday night with almost identical records, and they’re both finding ways to lose too many games lately. With the playoffs on everyone’s mind, one or both of these squads could end up out of the postseason picture, so this ends up as an essential set of games.

The Reds hold a 59-55 record, and the Marlins are only a half-game behind them at 58-55 as we enter this three-game series that kicks off on Monday night at the Great American Ballpark.
First, did you see what happened on Sunday to the Reds? Lyon Richardson made his first career start for Cincinnati on Sunday against the Nationals as the Reds were on the brink of being swept by Washington, having already been swept by the Cubs in the previous series.
Richardson faced batter #1, and CJ Abrams deposited a ball into the outfield stands, and that’s not what the Reds were hoping for. Well, Lane Thomas came up to bat next, and he did the same thing, and all of a sudden, it was 2-0 Nationals, and not an out had been recorded in his first-ever start in the big leagues!
Richardson lasted all but three innings before being yanked from the game, and his career ERA is now a solid 12.00… or not so much, HA!
That left the Reds with their longest losing streak of the campaign at six games, and now they have to regroup and deal with an equally struggling Marlins bunch.
The Marlins were the team on the heels of the Braves throughout most of the season until Philly caught some fire, and the Fish fell apart a bit. Miami has lost six of their last seven games, and now both of these teams are wondering if, and how, they can get a winning groove with only so much time in the regular season to be played.
Remember, October gets here quickly, and when you’re a struggling ballclub, the losses tend to seem to build up, and both teams are suffering at the same time entering this series.
I love runs to be scored in this game, although I don’t think they will happen right away.
Eury Perez and Brandon Williamson are listed as the probable starting pitchers for this contest on Monday, and I don’t trust either of them to put up a solid performance. Even though both of these offenses have gone to the rubbish of late, pitching for each team has been atrocious, and the runs will add up as the innings go by.
Tale the Over 10/5 Game total and toss it in an MLB bet builder with the 1st-Inning Draw, and that will give us a 4.60 opportunity to start the week.
Even if both teams do end up scoring an early run, I don’t think it will be more than a 0 – or 1 – 1 start to this game. It’s these bullpens that will help us topple the game total, but as I said, I don’t think the scoring will get insane right away.
Perez and Williamson will likely each give up an early bomb, and Williamson gave up two of them against the Cubs in his last start. Neither of those big blasts happened early in that game, however, so if I am being honest, I expect a 0-0 opening fame, and then the ice will be broken and smashed to pieces from there.
The Over 10.5 Game total and the 1st-Inning Draw are your two MLB bet builder tips to toss together so a 4.60 ticket can be cashed to start the week!
