The Arizona Diamondbacks have jumped out to a 1 – 0 lead in the NLDS against the LA Dodgers, and in a best-of-5 series as this is the Dodgers are in a must-win situation entering Monday’s Game 2 in Los Angeles.
Ej is breaking out four plays to arrive at same-game parlay for this affair with odds at 4.33, so with the Dodgers needing a home win let’s see what he’s come up with for Monday night on the diamond.
Same Game Parlay: 4.33
Odds via Bet365 as of 8:00 am on October 9, 2023. Odds may now differ
The Dodgers were heavy favourites to win game 1 on Saturday, and after an 11 – 3 beatdown the line setters expect them to level this series on Monday with a home win.
Listed at 1.65 at most major books, I am not buying into what the oddsmakers are selling because the Dodgers simply don’t look ready for the post-season. As you may recall, the Dodgers folded like lawn chairs last season losing their final three games of the playoffs, and now they carry a 4-game losing streak in the post-season to this game on Monday night.
Zac Gallen and Bobby Miller are listed as the Game 2 probable starting pitchers for this game, and Miller is certainly the more rested of the two. Miller hasn’t pitched since October 1 because the Dodgers earned a 1st-round bye in this year’s playoffs, and that is a concern for me too.
That much time away from the mound could have affected his location of pitches, and I am going to expect the Diamondbacks to jump on him early to test him out of the gate. After an 11 – 3 win to open the series, Arizona now has tilted this series, and Zac Gallen has to be licking his chops to get back on the mound after his stellar start against the Brewers in the wildcard playoff series.
I think Arizona will keep this to a 1-run game or possibly outright upset the Dodgers again, so the +1.5 is the first leg of this same-game parlay between the Dodgers and D’Backs.
If all we need is Big Zac to find his way to 4 strikeouts, then I have no issue involving this as a play to boost the odds a little. Over his last 9 starts, only once has Gallen struck out less than 4 batters, and even though the pressure is on now being up 1 – 0 against LA, I see Gallen figuring out a way to send for Dodgers back to the dugout with their bats still in their hand.
Mookie didn’t pick up a hit in Game 1 of this NLDS on Saturday, and we will know that his influence at the top of the Dodgers batting order is vital to the success of this team.
Betts was 0 for 3 with a walk and a run scored in Game 1, and that is simply not going to help the Dodgers get anything done tonight, or the rest of this series. He will pick up a base-knock on Monday, at least, although Gallen will do all he can to keep Betts off the bases.
How does 4 for 5 with the game of his life on Monday sound? Pham bashed a ball over the outfield stands on Saturday, and I almost thought about pulling the trigger on his hitting another HR on Monday. That is not easy to do in the playoffs, however, so I can simply ask for one hit out of the man after such a big day on Saturday.
I don’t think he will go 4 for 5 again tonight, but luckily we don’t need more than one hit from him tonight to help cash this 4-gamer with odds of 4.33 for Monday night.
