The Los Angeles Dodgers are in Chicago for the second of their three-game set with the White Sox on Thursday night at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox won 4-0 on Wednesday, though they are narrow betting underdogs for Thursday’s matchup. Los Angeles is in a bit of a slump with just two wins in their last eight games, while the White Sox have picked up three wins in a row for the first time since early May.

Chicago White Sox vs Los Angeles Dodgers Best Bet

Chicago’s Dylan Cease and Los Angeles’ Tyler Anderson aren’t the biggest names, yet this is a fascinating pitching matchup. Anderson is the latest starter to rejuvenate his career with the Dodgers, and Cease has followed up a breakout 2021 campaign with an even better start to 2022. Cease ranks in the top five percent in expected batting average against and has struck out over 32% of hitters this term.

Anderson, a lefty who has struggled to live up to expectations since being selected in the first round in 2011, has tweaked his pitch mix, throwing fewer four-seamers and upping the usage of his change-up. It’s a nasty change, which has generated a lot of swing and miss. It’s helped him rank in the 98th percentile in chase rate. The walks have long been an issue for Anderson too, but he’s even got that under control in 2022. Chicago is the most effective offence in the league against southpaws, though this isn’t an ideal matchup. Only two teams chase more than the ChiSox.

This isn’t an easy duel for Cease. The Dodgers once again lead the league in chase rate. They walk more against righties than any other team. While Cease has limited hard contact and racked up the strikeouts, he has walked 12% of batters. This Dodgers team is well-equipped to take advantage of that weakness and will work his pitch count up early on. The Mets and Yankees are the only clubs with a better wRC+ against right-handers.

Cease has pitched more than five innings just twice since the start of May. A lot will be asked of the White Sox’s bullpen, which has been disappointing outside of their backend guys. The Dodgers offence hasn’t been at its explosive best of late, but this looks an ideal game for Dave Roberts’ team to get back on track.

The form guide might nudge you towards a White Sox win. Recent losses aren’t putting us off backing the Dodgers, though. They are 18-10 on the road this season. Chicago is only 12-13 at home.

At a shade under Evens, the Dodgers are great value on the moneyline for this Thursday clash. We expect Cease to be forced out the game early, while the White Sox could struggle with Anderson’s change-up heavy approach.
