The Toronto Blue Jays host the Chicago White Sox for the third of their three-game series on June 2nd. On Wednesday night, Toronto ran out 7-3 victors on the back of a team pitching effort and explosive offensive performance. Chicago is once again underdogs for Thursday’s game – Toronto has six more wins than their opponents so far in 2022.

Toronto vs Chicago Best Bet

The White Sox have slipped to two games under .500, and send veteran right-hander Johnny Cueto to the mound on Thursday. Toronto is pursuing the Yankees in the American League East and will be very confident heading into this one with the impressive Alek Manoah on the bump. Manoah ranks in the 86th percentile in expected ERA and has only had one outing this season where he’s given up more than two runs.

Cueto was scoreless through his first two starts with the White Sox, but he gave up five to the Cubs in his last appearance. At 36 years old, the shimmying former Giant is not the pitcher he once was. His stuff has dropped off considerably, ranking in just the fourth percentile in whiff rate. Of course, this is a small sample size in 2022, but Cueto has not been missing many bats in recent years, after sitting in the 11th percentile by the same metric in 2020 and 23rd percentile in 2021.

Manoah isn’t a high strikeout guy. Instead, he thrives on forcing soft contact, ranking in the 92nd percentile in hard hit rate. His sinker and slider get a lot of balls hit into the ground, and that can be an effective strategy against a White Sox team which sits third-worst in groundball rate against righties.

Toronto’s offence hasn’t been as destructive as many expected so far in 2022, with just a 99 team wRC+ against right-handers. They are ninth in team wxOBA, however, and they have got hot of late, scoring six or more runs in six of their last seven games. That’s powered a seven-game winning streak, while the White Sox are on an 8-9 run.

The White Sox offence is missing key hitters in Eloy Jimenez and Tim Anderson. There are too many players struggling at the plate to envisage them doing damage against Manoah.

It’s a short price on the Jays to win this one, but it’s really hard to see the White Sox breaking Toronto’s winning streak. Given what we’ve seen from the Jays at the plate of late, bettors should consider backing the home team on the -1.5 runline. Cueto could be out of the game early on with how much hard contact the Jays make, and he’s not going to generate many swings and misses.

This wager is a no brainer. Toronto are the hottest team in the sport at the moment, and Chicago has been among the most disappointing clubs so far this season. Back Vlad Guerrero Jr and co to add yet another win on Thursday night.
