The Arizona Diamondbacks will be in New York to face the Mets for a 4-game series that begins on Monday and runs into Thursday, and the Snakes are still in the hunt for the post-season. With a sweet 5.50 same-game parlay to offer on Monday, Ej is hoping to start our week off with a bang!
Odds via Bet365 as of 8:00 am on September 11, 2023. Odds may now differ.
The Snakes will be here in New York for the next four days, although Monday’s game will be an emotional event as expected. It was 22 years ago today that the damn Twin Towers were taken away from us, and being a native New Yorker on top of being here when it happened… I have nothing more to say because I will get just as emotional; STILL!
Anyway, sorry to start on a somber note like that but it still hurts. We will honour our fallen heroes before the game, as the FDNY and NYPD along with EMS and other affiliations remember 9.11.01, and then we play baseball.
When we get there, I have zero faith that the Mets will get inspired to do anything worth a damn as they are simply trying to avoid finishing the 2023 campaign in last place. Only 1.5 games separate the Nationals and Mets in the NL East Division cellar, but the Diamondbacks have plenty of reasons to play inspired baseball today.
Zack Davies and Jose Quintana are listed as the expected starting pitchers for this first of four games in New York to start the week. As I look over the starts for Quintana lately, all I see are losses against good teams who are playing for something. He has faced the Orioles, Braves, and Rangers 4 times over his last 5 starts, and each time the Mets came away with a loss.
Davies’ season has been full of ups and downs too, so I don’t expect either of these two pitchers to be around long.
First of all, the Mets are listed as solid favourites to win this game, and I guess the line setters expect the 9.11 ceremonies to give the home team a lift on Monday. The Mets need a lot more than 9.11 to prove they can play inspired hopscotch much less baseball!
I love the fact that we get to add the DBacks at 2.20 in this combo, so let’s move to the total.
Plenty of runs will be scored, and yes, I know that Quintana does have great stuff at times, but his offence is rubbish the Mets only have two players who have shown they care about this season. The Polar Bear and Francisco Lindor are the only two Mets that have any desire to play baseball at this point, but they both are still putting up solid numbers.
I expect the Diamondbacks to win this game 8 – 5, which gives us plenty of cushion on this total of 9.5 to go over that number.
Another hit? I have no problem tossing Lindor to get just one hit in this game to boost our odds to 5.50 for this same-game parlay.
Lindor has had at least one hit in 8 of his last 9 games and is carrying a modest 5-game hit streak into Monday’s affair. All it takes is one knock and he should get five shots at it throughout this game.
