Philadelphia Phillies vs Kansas City Royals Bet Builder Tips: Friday, August 4th

The Kansas City Royals will be visiting the City of Brotherly Love for a 3-game set this weekend, as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies as one of four different matchups featuring series’ involving AL vs NL teams. While the Fightin’ Phils are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive, and the Royals arrive at Citizens Bank Park on Friday as heavy underdogs to open this series.

Someone forgot to tell the line setters that the Royals are playing their best baseball at the moment, carrying a six-game win streak into this weekend’s series, so what does Ej have to say about it all? Let’s hit the field and turn dirt into diamonds!

Philadelphia Phillies vs Kansas City Royals Bet Builder Tips: Royals not Expecting any Brotherly Love!

  • Kansas City +1.5 Runline Handicap
  • Game Total: Over 8.5 Runs

Bet Builder Odds: 3.30

Kansas City +1.5 Runline Handicap

The line setters are trying to tell us that the Royals have no chance to win this game tonight, and the considerable home favourites have cause for concern. Philadelphia is facing a Royals team that just swept the Mets after sweeping the Twins, and that gives the road team a 6-game winning streak entering Friday’s contest at Citizens Bank Park.

I thought about offering the 4.60 odds on the Royals Moneyline combined with the total to go over the 8.5 runs, but the handicap Runline of +1.5 is where I still believe we can get enough bang for our buck.

The true total is nine, and I am seeing some bookmakers issuing the 9.5 as the option to use in a bet builder as well. I would love to have the straight nine to see what odds we could get, but they always make us deal with the hook on the totals for same-game parlays and bet builders.

So, I think Kansas City can win this game, with Jordan Lyles expected to make the start for the Royals. Despite that ugly 2-12 record with a 6.15 ERA, he hasn’t been as bad as those numbers appear. Obviously, he is on a bad team, as 35-75 isn’t exactly going to make teams think you can play serious baseball, but I just saw 2 of those three games against the Mets, and if any team is inspired right now, it is the Royals, at least.

Hell, the Mets General Manager did what he said he would do while tearing the organisation to pieces, and the Royals were underdogs in all three of those games, too.

Give me the Royals to keep this a close game, and even if the final score is 5-4, we still put cash in the bank to end the week with the Over 8.5 in tow with the +1.5.

Game Total Over 8.5 Runs

I see runs being scored as Kansas City continues to battle back from the ugly season it has been to this point. Winning 6 games in a row has got to make this plane ride from home to Philly for this weekend’s series a good place to be.

Aaron Nola is expected to be starting for the Phillies, and even though he has managed to go deep into the game over the majority of his last 4 starts, none of those starts have exactly been pretty. Nola is coming off a performance against the Pirates that saw him allow all 7 runs in a 7 – 6 loss to the Pirates.

I think most of know that Lyles can always get lit up on any given day too, I mean let’s face it. That dude may be pitching better, but he also has a history of getting hit hard over the last 2-3 years.

Oh, by the way, the only supporting stat/fact that I could find was the one you see posted, as many trends are posing against Jordan Lyles. Things like the Royals are 0 – 7 in their last 7 interleague road games vs. a team with a winning record, and the Phillies are 5 – 0 in their last 5 interleague home games vs. a team with a losing record don’t help, right? HA!

I don’t see those as useful in this spot because Kansas City is playing much better at the moment, and the Phillies are feeling all of the pressure from trying to get back into the postseason again.

At 3.30, I think we can be happy with those odds to finish the week with a winning MLB bet builder ticket to cash!
