The Arizona Diamondbacks will spend the next four days at Petco Park to take on the San Diego Padres in an AL West Division battle. The two teams are separated by three games in the AL West standings, but they are each still trying to keep any semblance of a playoff berth in order. Let’s take it to the field and see what Ej has in store after his Thursday night effort ended up being a postponed game due to rain.
Odds via Bet365 as of 8:00 am on August 18, 2023. Odds may now differ
I apologize that the Detroit vs Cleveland game got rained out last night, so now I want to end the week on a high note. I am picking out the first game of this 4-game set at Petco Park because I like the way the Diamondbacks are playing baseball at the moment.
These two teams just met last weekend, and the D-Backs took two wins from their 3-game set in the desert after losing the first game to the Padres.
Brandon Pfaadt is the only listed probable pitcher that I see as I write this article, but I cannot confirm who the Padres are sending to the bump yet. I am assuming that Seth Lugo will get the nod again since he is next up in the rotation, but we are still awaiting confirmation.
Pfaadt has made 11 starts this campaign, and it is hard not to notice the 0-fer in his record for the year. With six losses and not a win to show for those 11 efforts, could tonight be the time he snaps this ugly run of results?
Even when Pfaadt has pitched well, and he has certainly had some nice outings this year, including the one he just made against these same Padres back on August 13. I just was looking at the numbers and thinking about what could stand out to us, and the fact that the D-Backs have played to a 1-run game in 6 of his last ten starts is a positive in this case.
All we need is another close game in this spot, with the Diamondbacks finding a way to keep it close or possibly get Pfaadt his first career W. The rookie has been given his chance to earn that win, and with the final month of the regular season fast approaching, this series is a big one for both teams.
I am hoping these two teams do not get stuck at 4 – 4, and the final result ends with nine runs. I am concerned about that for sure, but these two teams play to plenty of unders, and the trends would support that decision if you want to follow them. I posted all of those under the trends above to make sure you see that we are going against the grain in this spot because I expect a 6 – 5 final score on Friday night.
Here is my problem with that Under 9.5 Runs option. The line setters are trying to point everyone toward the under, as the odds I see on the Under 9.5 are as high as 1.65 at many sports books. At 2.20, the Over option makes this bet builder worth the effort, and it is why we have such a nice price of 3.90 for this combo.
I do not think these two teams will get stuck at 4 – 4, and I believe they will get to that number by the 7th inning. We will need them to merely score one run apiece over the final three innings to leave us at 5 – 5 with a close game battle all night.
Arizona +1.5 and the Over 9.5 make the grade as the MLB Friday Night Bet Builder!
