Action returns to the Euroleague this Thursday for week 10 games. Barcelona will hope to get back on track as they travel to face Maccabi Tel Aviv, Virtus Bologna will hope to continue their fine form as they host Fenerbahce, and Real Madrid will take advantage of struggling Alba Berlin at the WiZink Center.

Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Barcelona: Barca to Get Back on Track
So far this season, Barcelona has firmly established itself as the Euroleague’s second-best team. In their latest Euroleague encounter, Barca bounced back from a 94-71 defeat against Baskonia to secure a win over Valencia Basket at the Palau Blaugrana in Round 9 of the 2023-24 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
Barcelona started the game strongly, taking a 25-16 lead into the second quarter. However, Valencia wasn’t far behind, narrowing the gap by outscoring Barcelona 12-17 and 17-19 in the subsequent quarters.
The second half of the game remained tightly contested, but Barcelona ultimately clinched the win. Jan Vesely was exceptional, leading the game with 17 points, demonstrating remarkable efficiency by hitting 7 of 9 shots from inside the arc and maintaining a perfect record of 3-for-3 at the free-throw line. Contributions also came from Alex Abrines with 12 points, and both Tomas Satoransky and Willy Hernangomez chipped in 9 points each.
Their season record stands impressive at 7 wins in 9 games. The team boasts an average of 81.4 points per game and excels in various statistical categories: they are second in the league with 26.7 defensive rebounds and 37.9 total rebounds, alongside achieving 18.2 assists, 6.0 steals, 3.1 blocks (third in the league), and a 96.9 Performance Index Rating (PIR), again ranking second in the league.
Maccabi Tel Aviv, not to be underestimated with 5 wins in 8 games, presents a challenge. Yet, Barcelona, keen to recover from a recent domestic setback, looks forward to securing a victory in their upcoming away game.
Virtus Bologna vs Fenerbahce: The Black V Defend Home Court
Despite a recent setback against Panathinaikos Athens, where they fell 90-76 in a game marked by a decisive fourth quarter, Virtus Segafredo Bologna has been exhibiting strong performances in this Euroleague season, holding a notable 6-3 record.
This loss interrupted their impressive momentum, which included six wins in their last seven games. In this match, Marco Belinelli led with 20 points, and Tornike Shengelia contributed significantly with 17 points and 11 rebounds. However, the team struggled as no other player exceeded 7 points.
Rebounding quickly, Virtus displayed their strength in a domestic game, overpowering Brescia 88-76 in the Italian Lega A. Their performance was highlighted by an impressive 62.5% success rate in 2-point field goals.
This season, Virtus averages 83.3 points per game (ranking fourth), 32.4 rebounds, 20.9 two-pointers made (also fourth), 19.8 assists (third), 6.1 steals, 2.8 blocks, and a 91.6 Performance Index Rating (PIR), placing them sixth in the league. Tornike Shengelia has been a standout player, averaging 17.1 points per game (fifth-best in the league) and a 22.8 PIR (second in the league).
In contrast, Fenerbahce approaches their next game facing challenges, having suffered three consecutive losses in the Euroleague. Their away game record is concerning, with just one win against four losses.
Real Madrid vs Alba Berlin : Real Get an Early Dominance
Real Madrid has indeed asserted their dominance in the Euroleague this season, maintaining a perfect record by winning all eight games. In their recent convincing 91-73 victory over AS Monaco, Real Madrid displayed their strength, building a substantial 30-point lead before easing off in the fourth quarter.
Dzanan Musa led the home team with 21 points and 5 assists, while Sergio Llull contributed 14 points. Walter Tavares, Facundo Campazzo, and Vincent Poirier each added 12 points, with Poirier also securing 11 rebounds. The first quarter set the tone for Real Madrid’s dominance, with Musa and Tavares taking control.
Despite the injury setback with Guerschon Yabusele, Real Madrid’s depth and overall strength make them formidable, especially against a struggling Alba Berlin side. Alba Berlin comes into the matchup with three consecutive losses and only one win in the Euroleague this season, having yet to secure a victory away from home.
Real Madrid’s impressive statistical averages lead in various categories. They average 86.9 points per game (1st), 36.6 rebounds (4th), 10.5 three-pointers made (4th), 16.6 free throws (3rd), 21.9 assists (1st), 5.3 steals, 3.9 blocks (1st), 27.5 defensive rebounds (1st), and boast a Performance Index Rating (PIR) of 106.8 (1st).
Additionally, the historical records heavily favour Real Madrid, as Alba Berlin has not secured an away win over the Spanish giants in their last 11 attempts since their first meeting in 1999. Alba Berlin has also failed to win against Real Madrid in their last 17 attempts. These factors contribute to the narrative that Real Madrid enters the matchup as the clear favourite, and they are expected to dominate the game right away from the first quarter.
