Barclays Center hosts the league-leading New York Liberty and the not-so-league-leading Dallas Wings on Thursday night. New York is cruising atop the WNBA standings, while Dallas is facing a lost season. A massive spread for this game gives us a lot to think about with our Liberty vs Wings prediction.
Barrelling towards the number one seed, the Liberty are many people’s title favourites. Dallas is going to miss the postseason for the first time since 2020.
With the WNBA campaign back up and running after the Olympics, our Expert Insights are stacked with basketball betting tips. Expert Sam Cox will have his best bets throughout the regular season.

The Liberty just blew the Wings out by 22 points. That was without Sabrina Ionescu, who could be available for this game. By net rating, this is the league’s best team against the worst. Yes, Ionescu’s health is an uncertainty for bettors to monitor, but this line is too short even if the superstar guard is unavailable.
Dallas is 8-19 against the spread this season, which is the worst in the league by a comfortable margin. In their last six games, they have failed to cover this spread on four occasions. Those two games were against the young Indiana Fever and the 6-21 Los Angeles Sparks.
Having made a habit of beating teams by double digits, leading to a net rating above 13, the Liberty should make it consecutive blowouts of the Wings on Thursday night.
New York has won 12 of its last 13 games. Their +13.5 net rating is over five points ahead of any other team in the Association. It is an understatement to say they have been dominant this year – this team has been elite whatever category you look at, with impressive rebounding, turnover, and assist numbers.
Sabrina Ionescu was a game-time decision for Tuesday’s game against the Wings due to a neck issue but was ultimately ruled out 30 minutes before tip-off. Ionescu’s absence didn’t stop the Liberty obliterating the Wings – they had a positive net rating in minutes without Ionescu before Tuesday’s game. Given that she was only ruled out at the last minute, there’s a good chance Ionescu is healthy for Thursday’s rematch. The Liberty are +14.4 per 100 possessions with Ionescu on the floor.
Tuesday’s loss extended Dallas’ abysmal run to 3-19. Their net rating is the worst in the league. This has been a season to forget for the Wings, with their defence leaking more points than any other team in the league, and by quite a wide margin at that.
Dallas is at least getting healthier, including Satou Sabally’s long-awaited return, but this amount of losing takes its toll. How do they motivate themselves for the rest of the season?
The Dallas Wings have a 41-37 record all-time against the New York Liberty. Dallas has also won five of the nine postseason games between the two, although they haven’t met in the playoffs since 2008.
This is the first meeting between the teams this season. The Liberty took two of three in 2023 after the Wings won the 2022 season series. New York has not claimed consecutive season series against Dallas since 2016-2017.
