A pair of 14 – 4 programs square off in the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday night in Ames, Iowa, pitting the Iowa State Cyclones and Kansas State Wildcats at the J.H. Hilton Coliseum.
For the third straight day, Ej is covering the Big 12 Conference, so let’s bet that he can arrive at a winner on Hump Day!

If I am being honest, after missing my Tuesday 1st-Half play on Tuesday night I have started the week 0 – 2 with Big 12 tips, so now I just need to stay focused and get back in the win column on Hump Day.
I almost started writing up the Auburn vs Alabama game, but then I scrolled up the betting board and saw +9 with Kansas State tonight. I am sorry, but these two teams are quite literally mirror images of each other, and that is not just another cliche comment.
Both teams have 3 double-digit scorers, they each bring a 14 – 4 record into this contest, and they will both lock it down and play strong defense. Iowa State ranks 5th in the country, allowing only 60.7 PPG to their opponents this season, and when it comes to creating turnovers they are second-best in the entire nation!
This total seems playable to me, because I am seeing a 67 – 63 game take place in Ames, and that easily covers our +9 and just keeps us under the 133.5 points. With it being that close, however, I expect this to be a low-scoring opening half and a tight game throughout the night.
Cam Carter started every game for the Wildcats last season after transferring over from Mississippi State his Freshman campaign. The dude had 10 games scoring double-digits coming into this year with a high points total of 17, and he has already put up 16 double-digit efforts in only 18 games this season. Only twice has Carter been held to less than 10 points all year, and we know he carried the Wildcats into the Elite 8 of last year’s NCAA Tournament too!
Averaging over 16 PPG, Carter was joined by Tylor Perry who came over from North Texas in the off-season, and what a duo they are in the Wildcats’ backcourt. Perry is averaging 14.9 PPG this year after putting up 17 PPG last year with North Texas, so he has made the jump to the Big 12 with ease.
I think the two of them can keep Kansas State in this game for 60 minutes, and let’s not forget that Arthur Kaluma is not at Creighton anymore either. Kaluma brought his 2 years of Jayhawls’ experience to Manhattan, KS, and he is also averaging just over 15 PPG this campaign.
I honestly think that Kaluma was the best pickup in the transfer window for the Wildcats because he makes his free throws, he crashes the glass, and he has been dependable as hell over the last 3 years wherever he has been.
UNLV transfer Keshon Gilbert will have his say in all of this for the Cyclones, however, as he has already produced five games scoring over 20 points while averaging 13.5 PPG overall. Gilbert and his backcourt mate Tamin Lipsey are 1 – 2 in scoring for the Cyclones, and they combine to come up with 5 steals a night along with a great ability to limit turnovers.
The Iowa State defense is not going to make anything easy for Kansas State, but I think both of these programs are going to battle deep into the Iowa night, and we might even see overtime!
I will also predict a 29 – 24 first-half scoreline, so the total Under 63 should be a strong consideration for a second bet from this affair on Hump Day!
