MONMOUTH HAWKS VS SETON HALL PIRATES: POINTS FROM THE PRU

The Monmouth Hawks from the CAA will take on the Seton Hall Pirates out of the Big East on Tuesday night at the Prudential Center, and points are to be expected from this affair.

The Hawks have yet to defeat the Pirates in 7 all-time meetings dating back to 2006, and the line-setters are pointing to another convincing win for the home team tonight. At -14.5, it seems obvious that the Hawks won’t present much of a challenge but I am not so convinced of that because Monmouth has an offense that can keep them in these types of games.

Monmouth ranks 19th in the NCAA shooting the 3-ball, and as long as those shots can fall the Hawks could present a challenge to Seton Hall. On the other hand, let’s not lose track of the fact that the Hawks; defense is about to give up about 90 points to Seton Hall, so coming up with 76 points on the road will not be that easy to cover the line.

That’s why we aren’t fussing around with the cover here because the total is low enough to expect that 141.5 total to come crashing down with time to spare. The big advantage that the Pirates will have in this game is on the glass, and that will offer Seton Hall plenty of second-chance opportunities to finish possessions with points.

Because we are still playing so many non-conference games, as this is, matchups like these can be tricky. I am not about to get down on Seton Hall for being 1- 4 over their last 5 games because their schedule is outstanding and they are playing some damn good basketball teams lately. Losses to Rutgers, Baylor, Iowa, and USC are nothing to cry about, as those are all solid programs that are going to have fantastic campaigns as the season goes on.

Seton Hall will not struggle at all to find open shots and opportunities to score, even if they are a terrible 3-point shooting team. When you see 333 next to a team’s ranking, you know they are miserable in that category, and Seton Hall ranks 333rd in that category, The free throws and inside presence are where Seton Hall will be doing most of their damage tonight, so expect them to get those 90 points tonight. That means all we’ll need from Monmouth is 52 points to topple this total, so you can bring that to the bank!

WESTERN KENTUCKY HILLTOPPERS VS WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS: A POTENTIAL UPSET AT THE NUTTER

The Hilltoppers hit the road for a visit to the Nutter Center on Tuesday night where they will take on the Raiders, and I expect the road team to come away with the outright win! That’s right, Western Kentucky can certainly win this game, and we’re seeing a similar situation to the meeting last year when these two teams met.

Almost a year ago to the day, the Raiders were favoured by 7 points to take out Western Kentucky, and the Hilltoppers sent them home with a loss. Now, this year’s meeting is at Wright State, and once again the Raiders are listed as the -5.5 chalk.

My first thought when I started to look into this game was also toward the total, and then I saw the number and almost spit up my soup. 161.5? My goodness, that is one high number to have to concern ourselves with, so let’s pass on that. If it was 10 points lower I could be convinced to stab at the total, but with a handful of points and a hook on the board, I am suggesting a bet on the Hilltoppers to cover that easily.

As much as I would love to get all ballsy and put the Hilltoppers Moneyline on the board, I do respect the schedule that Wright State has played thus far too. They have taken on quite a nice non-conference schedule, and being 4 – 5 isn’t that much of a surprise with the quality of opponents they have dealt with.

Colorado State and Indiana are far and away better than Wright State, and those losses are to be expected. The losses to Davidson and Milwaukee, however, aren’t exactly good showings so I don’t see why the line-setters think they will have a ton of success tonight. Home court is nice, but it won’t be enough to carry Wright State to a convincing home win tonight so put those points in your pocket.

ORAL ROBERTS GOLDEN EAGLES VS TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS: A SUPERMARKET SWEEP!

So let’s sweep the board tonight and finish off the card with the battle from United Supermarkets Arena. Where Texas Tech will play host to ORU.

If you are impressed with the Texas Tech defense on paper, don’t be! The amount of rubbish on the Red Raiders non-conference schedule smells from the UK, so don’t let stats talk you into the wrong bet.

Oral Roberts is ranked 15th in the country converting 3-point attempts this season, and any of their 9 main players can bury the rock from behind the arc. Amazingly, all of the damage the Eagles do is from their guards, as 8 of their top 8 scorers all play in the backcourt.

Isaac McBride is an animal who can do anything on the court, and when #10 is in a groove the Eagles are going to be a tough out for anyone when they get conference play started. McBride is putting 20 PPG, converting 37% from behind the arc, and that 88.6% from the free-throw line sure is impressive as hell too.

The Texas Tech offense has produced overs in 4 of their last 5 contests, and what a game that was when they played Butler a few days ago. That overtime game ended with 198 points and the Red Raiders ended up losing that battle to the Bulldogs.

Texas Tech has played quite a weak schedule to start the season outside of games against Nova and Michigan, and the Red Raiders have struggled to cover any type of spread in games where they are strongly favoured. They are listed at -12.5, and I almost decided to give out the Eagles to cover that number before I decided on this total

144 points will be found between the two of them tonight, so expect a much closer game than the line setters want you to believe and plenty of points to hit the scoreboard in the Lone Star State.

  • Selection: Over 143.5
  • Best Odds: 1.91
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stakes: 4/10
