NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS VS PURDUE BOILERMAKERS: BIG TEN CONFERENCE PLAY BEGINS

Our first selection will come from the Northwestern Wildcats vs Purdue Boilermakers game. The Big Ten regular season is officially underway now that we have reached the December portion of the schedule, and everything that these two teams have accomplished to this point means almost nothing anymore.

Purdue swept their non-conference slate with a perfect 7 – 0 record, and the Wildcats only lost one game en route to their 5 – 1 results. If there is anything to take out of that, it is undoubtedly the schedule that Purdue took on to open the campaign.

The 7 – 0 record for the Boilermakers is far and away more impressive than the non-conference slate that the Wildcats took on to start the campaign. Purdue has beaten teams like Xavier, Tennessee, Gonzaga, and Marquette, while Northwestern’s toughest challenge came from Mississippi State.

Northwestern lost that game, 66 – 57, to account for their only loss thus far, and the Wildcats only covered two of their spreads against a rather weak schedule.

I am pointing towards this total because Purdue’s offense will enjoy opening conference play at home, and their 84.1 PPG ranks them 38th in the Nation in scoring. I fully expect Purdue to land another 80 points tonight, and we’ll only need about 60 from the Wildcats to cash this total.

Zach Edey has gotten off to a tremendous start to the season, as his 21.9 PPG makes him the leader on this roster. Edey is in his fourth season with the Boilers, and even though his average minutes are a bit down from last season, he has a surrounding cast that supports him.

The Boilermakers go 12 men deep, and everyone on this roster expects to see time on the court for Matt Painter. Painter played at Purdue and has been manning the sidelines for his alma mater since 2005. With back-to-back 29-win seasons, the lack of post-season success is a glaring concern, but we are nowhere near March Madness yet.

The opening-round upset in the NCAA Tournament last season was a tough pill to swallow after winning the Big Ten title outright and earning a 1-seed in the big dance. The 1 Vs 16 upset in ‘their bracket left some scars, but it hasn’t affected them this season.

CAL STATE FULLERTON TITANS VS NORTH DAKOTA FIGHTING HAWKS: A NON-CONFERENCE BATTLE IN THE GOLDEN STATE

Does anyone want to tell me why Fullerton is favoured in this game? Not only are they listed as the chalk, but -5.5 points is simply too good to ignore. North Dakota smashed this team to pieces when they met for the first time last year, 73 – 57, and I expect them to win this game outright again. We finish off our NCAAB parlay with an underdog pick from the Cal State Fullerton Titans vs North Dakota Fighting Hawks game.

I love points in my pocket though, and at 1.91 without even having to buy the .5-point is an early Christmas gift from the line setters.

The Hawks have jumped out to a 5 – 1 record, and their only loss came against Iowa on opening day. There is far from any shame in that, and I also like the fact they have won some close games to start the new campaign. North Dakota won three straight games by 2 points before the last game against a cupcake that we don’t need to mention, and wins over Pacific, New Orleans, and Eastern Michigan aren’t shabby for a Summit League team looking for respect.

The Titans have won a total of two games this year, and if they hadn’t won those two affairs the fans wouldn’t even show up ever again. Wins against Southern Miss and La Sierra do not weigh at all, as they might as well be playing games against High School teams.

Only 7 players have appeared in all 6 games the Titans have played, and depth is a major concern for this Fullerton program. Max Jones has certainly taken a step in the right direction in his second season with the Titans improving his scoring average from 12.1 PPG to 18.5 this year.

I think both of these programs will have issues with the bench production throughout the season, and the Hawks might actually have bigger concerns than the Titans if I am being honest.

Luckily, the starting 5 Hawks players are helping the team average 78.4 PPG, and I expect this to be a tight game throughout the night. Grab the Hawks to cover the +5.5, and add it to the total in the Big Ten game above to cash a nice 3.64 payout as part of the NCAAB Friday Night Parlay.

  • Selection: North Dakota +5.5 Handicap
  • Best Odds: 1.91

  • Stakes: 4/10
