After missing his tip on Monday, our resident college hoops expert is hitting the glass hard so he can rebound with a winner on Tuesday night. Ej is turning to the Mountain West Conference for today’s bet, and it happens to be the last game of the night on the schedule.
New Mexico and Utah State are set for a big clash at The Pit on Tuesday night, but the home team is listed as underdogs against an Aggies squad that has jumped out to a 4 – 0 start in MWC play. Let’s see what we can expect to happen in Albuquerque!

The New Mexico Lobos will host a big game in the Mountain West Conference when they welcome the Utah State Aggies to The Pit on Tuesday night.
Despite having lost only one game this entire campaign, the Aggies arrive in Albuquerque as underdogs and they are bringing a 14-game winning streak to the party! This is another situation where I think an underdog can win outright, so pocketing a handful of points suits me fine in this spot.
The Pit is one of the hardest places to pick up a road win, however, as the Lobos sport an impressive 9 – 0 record on this court thus far in the campaign. Both of these programs are built to score, and the line setters are undoubtedly expecting a high-scoring affair to take place on Tuesday night. With a total set at 156.5, I do expect them to fulfill the expectations on that total and smash it to bits! I almost thought about just suggesting this total, but then it hit me that to get there we would need both teams to be scoring anyway.
Both of these teams are extremely deep, and either coach could pull all five of their starters from the game and still have a decent team on the floor. That cannot be said for many teams in Division 1 hoops, and now we have two teams that put a lot of players in the game to produce.
The Aggies have four players averaging double-digit scoring, and none better than Great Osobor who is having a tremendous year. Osobor is bringing in 18.9 PPG and 9.5 RBG, and he is averaging 24.4 points over his last four outings. The Montana State transfer has already smashed his combined stats over the last two years with the Bobcats, although he is prone to turning over the ball too much.
The Lobos also have four players that average double-digits this season, and this will likely be the last year we all get to see Jamal Mashburn Jr. playing college hoops. Now in his fourth year with the Lobos, Mashburn missed a month of the season due to injury, but in only 10 appearances he leads the squad putting up 16.5 PPG.
This is going to be an 85 – 82 game, and I don’t care which team wins as long as it is close when the final horn sounds at The Pit on Tuesday night. Yes, that means I like that Over to fly in too.
