OLE MISS REBELS VS MISSISSIPPI STATE BULLDOGS PICKS AND PREDICTION

We came away with a winner on Monday night with Duke cruising to a first-half lead, and now I plan to build on our current 2-game win streak riding the Ole Miss Rebels on Tuesday night at home. What a game I expect this to be because these two programs are big In-State rivals, and the adrenalin will be flowing for both programs tonight.

I will be honest, as I usually am, and tell you that I had two games in mind tonight, the other being a MAC contest. I do like Bowling Green to win their game on the road, but I have been loyally taking Ole Miss at home this season, I am turning right back to them to pick up a win at the Pavilion.

Ole Miss loves home cookin’, and that outstanding 12 – 0 record in this building is too hard for me to ignore, even if a tough Miss State team is in town tonight. Last year’s game between these two here at the Pavilion needed overtime to decide a winner, and Miss State indeed found a road win last February, 69 – 61. Hell, the Bulldogs have taken wins in four of the last five meetings with Ole Miss, including the last 3 times they’ve met overall. That is not influencing me in the least in this spot because I am not fading Ole Miss at home until someone proves they can beat them here at the Pavilion.

When this line first came out, I saw Ole Miss at -1.5, and I knew in an instant that it wouldn’t last long. It jumped up to 2 by 7 PM ET, and I see some sites are even boosting it to -2.5 already as it is 9 PM for me here in NY as I hand this article in.

The Bulldogs only feature two players averaging double-digit scoring this campaign, and Tolu Smith brings five years of experience to the show. Smith is putting up just over 17 PPG this year, and all he has done every year is improve his game. How happy are they to have him back in the rotation after missing all of the 2023 portion of the campaign Smith has only played in a total of 8 games this year since returning to the team on December 31, just in time to get prepped for SEC play.

The Rebs have four players finding their way to double-digits every night, and my biggest fear in this game is foul trouble. Ole Miss isn’t deep at all, as Head Coach Chris Beard only plays about 8 guys on the court every night. Beard depends on his five starters to stay on the court and produce, and they have responded like clockwork!

Matty Murrell pockets over 18 PPG for the Rebels this year, and he is one of eight players on this team that bury over 40% of their shots from the floor. Ole Miss does a great job of getting the best look at the rim, and no one on this team cares who takes the shot as long as it’s a good one.

The unselfishness of the Rebels, especially at home, has me thinking about a 74 – 69 game, and yes, it will be that close! Luckily, that close still gets us paid, so ride the Rebels at home!
