After bashing out another MAAC winner on Tuesday, our resident hoops expert Ej Garr is out to smash a total from the Sun Belt Conference on Hump Day! Ej will bring us to Jonesboro, Arkansas, for his Wednesday best bet, and that’s where Arkansas State and James Madison will be dancing their way to a high-scoring affair.

It sounds high, right? I know 160 points sounds like a lot, but as I was perusing the schedule to find my Wednesday night best bet, this game wouldn’t stop screaming at me! Pick me, Ej, pick me!
I heard the court calling me from Jonesboro, and I will admit right off the bat that when I saw 160 on this total, I knew exactly why the line setters put it there. On paper, this is a lopsided matchup because the Dukes are cruising this campaign, but for some reason, the handicap line is only +/-5.
That I can’t explain other than the fact that Arkansas State can score even though they can’t seem to win many games this year, JMU has put up a 19 – 3 record thus far, and yet they still haven’t cracked the top 25. I guess no one wanted to notice the upset win over Michigan State to start the season, along with a Cancun Challenge tourney trophy in November. Oh, the Dukes only beat Fresno State in the title game, 95 – 64, pfft!
Whether anyone is impressed with the Dukes’ schedule or not, this team scores, and then they score, and then they score some more! Both programs are about .500 with the totals on the O/U, but some of the totals posted have been up there as it is again tonight. You can’t score 90 every night, but the Dukes can certainly find their way there on any given night, on any floor!
Here is a little sample of what JMU can do. From November 21 to December 30, the Dukes played nine total games. Not once were they held under 82 points, and that run includes the 95 points against Fresno State to win the Cancun Challenge. The Dukes have also scored over 100 points five times this campaign, and we might just see them get there again tonight in Jonesboro.
.
Terrence Edwards has only been held under double-digits three times this season, and ironically, on one of his worst nights against Fresno State (9), the rest of the team picked him up and still broke out for 95 points. Edwards leads the Dukes’ squad, bringing in 16.8 PPG in his fourth season with JMU, and Tj Bickerstaff provides plenty of interior presence averaging about 14 points and 9 boards a night.
The Red Wolves have five players scoring at least 9.6 PPG, and Caleb Fields is scoring 16.2 PPG over the Red Wolves’ last 10 efforts. Fields leads the Arkansas State roster bringing in 13 PPG, and he is coming off a 13-assist effort against ULM.
I see this as a race to 90 points, so expect more like 175 points when this game is said and done!
