Ej is officially making plain ole Friday into the new MAAC day, so for the rest of the regular season, you can expect him to break out a play from that conference to end the week. Our resident college hoops expert grew up less than 2 miles from the Iona campus in New Rochelle, NY, and he has followed the MAAC his entire life, so who better can we trust with all of that experience under his belt?

The statement above is 100% true, as I was quite literally born at New Rochelle Hospital in 1969, and my childhood home was located less than 2 miles from the Iona College campus located on Boston Post Road, also known as US1. I cannot count the amount of times that I have been on that campus either at a game or partying back in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and I even played Bingo on the basketball court with my grandmother!
Damn, I am old! Anyway, I have attended 13 MAAC Tournaments in my lifetime because I know and love this conference and I make sure I keep paying attention to everything happening there. My birthday falls right around the tourney so I always like spending it watching MAAC hoops if I can.
Quinnipiac is favoured by 4 points on the road, and the only thing that went through my mind is that I am going to get my readers paid in only 20 minutes today! When I break out a 1st half bet.
Siena has no chance of winning this game at all in my opinion, as they just snapped their ugly 8-game losing skid in their last game against a pretty bad Niagara team. If I am being honest, this conference is full of bad squads this season, and I think it is pretty clear that Quinnipiac and St. Peters are by far the best two teams in the MAAC. The standings are the first part of the story, as only the top four MAAC teams overall have a winning record at all.
A win over Niagara is not about to change my mind about how bad Siena is in this campaign, as 3 wins and 13 losses show me that Carmen Maciariello is on the verge of losing his job with the Saints. Maciariello had the Saints on top of the conference in his first two seasons with Siena, and although he managed to keep them over .500 the last two years, this season is a complete disaster. I don’t see it getting much better either, and I think his time with the program might be coming to an end sooner rather than later.
The Bobcats have lost twice over their last nine games, and those were each non-conference losses to Yale and Florida. Since conference play has gotten started, the Bobcats have only tasted one defeat in MAAC play, and they are right behind St. Peters in the table.
If you are into rankings and numbers, don’t look at the Siena defensive stats because you might go blind! There are 360 Division 1 programs, and Siena ranks 360th when it comes to second-half defense, and the 78.1 PPG allowed puts them at 327th in the nation. Oh, it gets worse early, because Siena ranks dead-last in the nation in 1st-half offense barely scraping out 27 points a game in the opening frame.
Siena opponents are converting nearly 48% of their shots this year, and you see the glorious 351 number next to that ranking too!
The Bobcats’ offense puts up nearly 78 PPG, and their offensive rebounding numbers rank them 22nd in the land. That all leads me to believe that we will see a 35 – 28 Quinnipiac lead at halftime, and I love getting us paid in 20 minutes!

The Siena Saints just snapped an 8-game losing streak, and at 3 – 13, they have the least wins and the most losses in the MAAC this season.
When it comes to defensive rankings, the Saints appear at or near the bottom of the board in 8 categories overall.
The Bobcats bring a 3-game win streak into Albany on Friday night, and Matt Balanc has been a double-digit scorer in the last 9 Bobcats games.
Sean Durugordon would be leading the entire NCAA in scoring if he played enough games with Siena. With an average of 25.8 PPG, he is the biggest concern that any team will have when taking on the Saints.
