The 5-12 Indiana Fever face the 9-7 Washington Mystics at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington on Friday night. Indiana won by 21 points when the teams met last month, but the Mystics are favoured comfortably for this game thanks to their superior record on the season.
Washington, however, has lost two of its last three. Kristi Toliver and Shakira Austin are confirmed absentees, while Natasha Cloud and Elena Delle Donne are both day-to-day. Delle Donne did not practice on Thursday, and sat out the Mystics’ loss to the Atlanta Dream during the week.
Indiana looks to have all their key players available for this one, and they can take some confidence into this contest after beating the Mystics earlier this season. They have lost five games in a row, however, and own the worst net rating in the Association over that period.

Injuries to Cloud, Delle Donne and Austin have considerably weakened this Mystics team. With neither Cloud nor Delle Donne practicing in the week, it seems unlikely that either will suit up for this game. It’s too early in the season to be playing through ankle issues, particularly with the All-Star break offering an opportunity to recuperate in the coming days. Washington is 18.3 points better per 100 possessions with Delle Donne on the court – they are -8.8 per 100 possessions without Delle Donne.
While Indiana has suffered 12 losses on the season, they have been competitive more often than not. They lost by just two points against the Sky a couple of games ago, and have pushed the high-flying Aces hard on multiple occasions. Their net rating on the road is -6.4, with the third-best offence in away games. Their record against the spread is better than Washington’s – we’re taking the Fever to cover here.
Washington is also one of the worst rebounding teams in the league. Indiana has been effective on the glass all season long, part of which can be attributed to NaLyssa Smith, who ranks fourth in rebounding rate this term. Smith has reached double-digit rebounds in four of her last six, and we like her chances of pushing that to five in seven.

If the Fever are to be competitive, Kelsey Mitchell also has a big role to play. Mitchell is joint-fifth in three-point attempts per game, and has gone over this threes made line in 13 of her 17 outings in 2023.
It’s a no-brainer to pair this player prop with the Fever to cover. Of course, Smith grabbing offensive rebounds could also lead to some open shots for Mitchell on the perimeter.
