Oregon State visits for a Pac-12 Conference game on Thursday night, and this is the official last game of the night here in the United States. If you stay up, or get up, until 4 in the morning over in Europe, you are a fan because I live in New York so that’s even a late opening tip for me.
I am not going to miss this affair though, because I am expecting a much closer contest than the line setters want to lead you to believe won’t happen. At +11, that is just a disrespectful line for a Beavers squad with an equal 9 – 4 record as the Cougs, and I feel that way because of their schedule thus far in the front half of the campaign. We only have two months of Conference basketball left to go before March Madness gets here again, so these games are so important to these kids, coaches, and fans!
I am pretty impressed by the four losses for Oregon State, which might strike you as an odd comment. Although they did get crushed in their four losses, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, UCLA, and Baylor are pretty damn good this season so I am not going to hang any shame on those other than how badly they did get defeated in those games.
Now that conference play has started, Oregon State is already 1 – 1 with that loss to UCLA but the Beavers rebounded from that L with a pretty nice win over USC last time on the floor. Granted, USC is not going to overwhelm anyone in conference play this year, as they are not going to be in the discussion of the top teams battling for placement in the Pac-12 Conference Tourney.
Regardless, I love all of these points we have to put in our pockets because +11 is just too nice to let sit there without our attention. Washington State is 1 – 3 in their last four games, and they are already 0 – 2 in conference play having lost to Utah and Colorado coming into this home game on Friel Court.
I am aware that the Cougars are a perfect 7 – 0 at home through December, but now these games are going to be much tighter and Washington State doesn’t carry much momentum into this game.
Defensively, the Cougs are outstanding, so that makes me think that this will be a 69 – 66 type of game, and the line setters almost agree with me when it comes to the total. I see a 133.5 being posted on the Over/Under, but that’s too close of a shave to make a play for me so we are basking in the points on the underdog after banging out a rare favourite yesterday.
