There are four scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with NH fans in for an informative afternoon of top class jumping at Cheltenham on soft ground. The Stayers hurdle at 3.30pm is the highlight of the afternoon, with 2024 looking a wide open renewal. Punters also have supporting cards at Hexham in the afternoon over sticks, alongside lower grade AW fixtures under lights in the evening at Chelmsford and Southwell.

Banbridge
Cheltenham 2.50 (UK time)
Joseph O’Brien’s classy performer is often underestimated by the market, and now looks the clear form choice after the likely short-priced favourite Allaho was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury. He has won 4 of his 6 career starts so far over fences, returned better than ever at Kempton in January, and has won both of his two previous visits over to Cheltenham. The soft ground conditions this week have come just at the right time, and he can travel all over these rivals under regular rider J J Slevin before quickening away up the hill.
Odds: 6.0
Dysart Enos
Cheltenham 4.50 (UK time)
Fergal O’Brien’s improving mare is fancied to strike a rare blow for the English trainers by landing this valuable Grade 2, with her Cheltenham experience sure to be a real asset when the chips are down up the final climb. She was a very smart performer in bumpers and her hurdling has sharpened run to run so far over hurdles, showing a terrific turn of foot here in December (in a contest that has worked out very well subsequently). This represents a jump up in class against some useful Irish mares, but she might just have too much speed for them under Paddy Brennan from the last over this 2m1f trip.
Odds: 6.0
Time (UK) | Odds | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:30 | 6.00 | Iroko | Held in the very highest regard at home, and looks one of the most exciting prospects against rivals who lack his potential. |
2:10 | 17.00 | Springwell Bay | Thriving handicapper with course form in the mud, and will relish the emphasis on stamina that this race provides. |
3:30 | 9.00 | Crambo | Progressive young stayer from the excellent Fergal O’Brien yard, and he can improve past some more jaded ageing rivals here under the popular veteran Paddy Brennan. |
4:10 | 17.00 | Shakemup’harry | Strapping chaser revels in the mud and returned to his best winning form at Cheltenham last time out. |
5:30 | 13.00 | Where it all began | Tough stayer looks a big runner here with conditions to suit, and can take this en-route to a tilt at the Aintree Grand National in April. |
