There are eight scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with flat fans in for a very busy afternoon and evening of varied action on rapidly drying turf. They have Bath, Brighton, Fairyhouse, Goodwood, Haydock and Thirsk to study, with some tough handicaps to try to solve at the Sussex venue (and the top Newmarket yards sure to be well represented in the novice/maiden contests). Jumping fans have Clonmel and Market Rasen to get stuck into, with small fields likely at the Lincolnshire venue and the ground riding on the faster side after a warm week of weather across the country.

Brett Johnson does well every season with a very small team of horses in the south, and his consistent handicapper can finally end a frustrating spell of near misses in slightly stronger company on the all-weather through the winter months. This Class 6 classified stakes represents a marked drop down in class, and the strength of Neil Callan should help coax his head in front at the business end of proceedings (on rapidly quickening ground that suits).

A more patient ride will be required now stepping back up in trip to 1m4f, but there should be a decent pace on up front and he can swoop late under William Carson.
