There are six scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with flat fans in for a varied and busy afternoon and evening. They have Carlisle, Catterick, Chepstow, Doncaster and Epsom to study on decent ground, with the Oaks very much the highlight on a cracking card as the two-day Derby meeting gets underway (and the top Newmarket yards sure to be well represented in the novice/maiden contests). Jumps fans have low grade action to study at Stratford, with a huge summer holiday crowd certain as usual.

Epsom 4.30 (UK time)
Dermot Weld’s scopey filly impressed when springing a 9/1 surprise on her reappearance at Navan in April in a warm Group 3, thought to need the run but sustaining a strong run from a poor position to assert late over 1m2f. She has been aimed at this valuable Group 1 prize since by her astute connections, with the step up to 1m4f certain to suit and plenty more improvement in the tank after just three career starts so far.

Epsom 2.35 (UK time)
William Haggas has his team in blistering form as usual, with 8 winners in the last fortnight at a 17pc strike rate, and his useful handicapper should now be cherry ripe after two promising runs so far this turf season. He did not enjoy the run of the race when well backed down to 9/2f at York last time out in a huge field, seeing little daylight trapped on the inner, but still shaped as though nearing his peak and can pick these off late and wide under Tom Marquand.
Odds: 8.00
