There are three scheduled meetings on Good Friday, with AW fans in for a very busy afternoon of competitive action. They have Chelmsford, Lingfield and Newcastle to study, with some decent handicaps to try to solve at the Surrey venue in particular (and the top Newmarket yards sure to be well represented with some enhanced prize money on offer across the seven race card).
In this article:
Inspiritus
Lingfield 2.05 (UK time)
Roger Varian’s handicapper comes here on the upgrade after two cracking runner-up efforts (latest over this course and distance earlier in the month when a well backed 9/4f), and he seems sure to go close if enjoying any luck in-running under the excellent James Doyle. The yard is in terrific form at the moment, and he remains open to more improvement after just five runs on all-weather surfaces in his career so far.
Odds: 4.50
Diamond Bay
Lingfield 3.15 (UK time)
Tom Ward’s stayer has slipped down the weights after a couple of runs on the all-weather this year so far, and he shaped better than the bare result over this course and distance last time out (hampered against the inside rail before the home turn). He should now be fully fit, and his strike rate of five wins from 18 AW starts shows he is well capable when at his best (with the booking of the excellent Sean Levey certainly increasing confidence).
Odds: 17.00
