There are seven scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with flat fans in for a varied and busy afternoon and evening of racing. They have Chester, Cork, Goodwood, Sandown and York to study, with some tough handicaps to try to solve at the Esher venue (and the top Newmarket yards sure to be well represented in the traditionally strong novice/maiden contests). Jumping fans have Market Rasen and Newton Abbot to get stuck into, though the field sizes are typically small for the time of year with the ground riding on the faster side.

Sandown 2.05 (UK time)
Jessica Macey’s consistent sprint handicapper posted a career best effort when fifth in a huge field over six furlongs at York last time out, and a repeat of that effort should be enough to take this modest Class 4 contest at Sandown on Friday. He has won 2 from 8 on the turf so far, and this stiffest of five furlongs on decent ground should be absolutely ideal under Lewis Edmunds (proven form at six furlongs).

Sandown 3.15 (UK time)
Jonathan Portman’s battle-hardened 7-y-o has been a real money-spinner for connections over the years (with his Sandown record excellent), and has optimum conditions here to bounce back to his best form under the excellent Rossa Ryan. He showed all of his ability remain intact when second at Newbury in April on his seasonal reappearance after six months on the sidelines, and has had excuses for three lesser efforts since in warm handicap company.
