Day 3 of the York Ebor meeting is the highlight on Friday, with the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at 3.35pm very much the highlight on a brilliant day of top class racing on the Knavesmire. This 5f sprint is one of the fastest in the country when ground conditions are fast, and the 2022 renewal features an extremely exciting prospect in James Tate’s unbeaten 3-y-o filly Royal Acclaim.
There are supporting cards on the turf at Carlisle, Newbury and Salisbury, while all-weather fans have the evening cards at Newcastle and Wolverhampton to get stuck into later on.
In this article:
Royal Acclaim
York, 3:35 (UK time)
James Tate’s 3-y-o filly has created a deep impression in three wins in a short career so far, and she fully merits a place in this prestigious Group 1 after a brilliant win in listed company over this course and distance last time out. She was ridden with supreme confidence by Andrea Atzeni there on the fast ground, cruising all over her rivals from halfway and not off the bridle to saunter clear before the furlong pole. This does represent a much stiffer test, but they are sure to go a very strong pace from the stalls with several trailblazers in the line up, and she is fancied to cruise through late to maintain her unbeaten record.
Odds: NA
Farhan
York, 1:50 (UK time)
John Butler’s useful performer always needs the cards to fall right as he is usually ridden with extreme waiting tactics (very free going in his early days but much more settled down now). He has caught the eye in both recent runs this summer. He never landed a blow under a negative ride when well backed at Hamilton last time out, but finished with running left in the tank, and a return to York and a big field is expected to suit ideally (one excellent course and distance run on good ground last season).
Odds: NA
