Day 2 of the Ebor meeting at York dominates the racing scene in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with the Group 1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks very much the highlight at 3.35pm. This 1m4f test has a rich and long history of top class races over the years, and the 2022 renewal looks typically competitive with Aidan O’Brien holding a strong hand at the declarations stage.
Elsewhere, there is competitive turf action from Chepstow, Killarney and Leicester to keep
punters and bookmakers alike busy throughout the afternoon and evening, while NH fans have Fontwell and Stratford to study.

Aidan O’Brien’s high class filly was slightly disappointing behind Westover in the Irish Derby at the Curragh in June, but she was ridden very negatively and is well worth forgiving that run now freshened up by a six week break. Her previous win in the Epsom Oaks has been franked several times over by the third Nashwa, and the flat galloping nature of the York straight should suit her ideally (very much a stayer rather than possessing an explosive turn of foot, and likely to be ridden a lot more positively by Ryan Moore).

Michale Dods has a terrific record on the Knavesmire, especially in these valuable handicaps, and his 5-y-o should relish a drop back down in class from a listed company. He ran really well over this course and distance in May, well suited by a strongly run race and just failing to reel in the winner having come from miles off the pace. A small field was little use to him last time out off a muddling gallop, but these are his optimum conditions and he seems sure to go very close if enjoying any luck in running under Connor Beasley.
Odds: NA
