The Aintree Grand National on Saturday at 5.15pm is the biggest horse racing betting event of the year worldwide, with millions watching and enjoying a bet on a race with long history of thrills and spills over the 4m2f trip.
This years renewal will again be played out in front of a full house at the track, while the dominance of Irish trainers is likely to carry on with Gordon Elliott saddling no less than eight of the 40 runners.
The current favourite is Delta Work, who has been hammered down to 8/1 in the last few weeks, and he holds outstanding claims after beating Tiger Roll in the Cross Country at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
However, all the value has dried up now, and perhaps his stablemate Run Wild Fred is the one to side with at around the 25/1 mark with the bookmakers.
Run Wild Fred will be ridden by the brilliant veteran rider Davy Russell, who has already proven how superb he is over these demanding fences by winning the big race twice on Tiger Roll in 2018 and 2019.
Run Wild Fred is completely unexposed over this extreme stamina test, running over 3m5f only twice in his 11 race career over fences, and on each occasion performing with credit (and looking sure to stay a lot further).
He just found the ground on the fast side when second in the NH Chase at Cheltenham last time out, but underfoot conditions are sure to be more suitable at Aintree and he is confidently expected to go close if enjoying any luck in running.
