Saturday’s Horse Racing Tips: Aintree, April 15th

Today’s Racing Tips – April 15h
The ITV cameras focus in on Aintree on Saturday, with the Grand National at 5.15pm sure to attract a massive worldwide audience fir the biggest race in the sporting calendar. There are 16 unique fences on the Grand National course, 14 of which are jumped twice along the four mile, two and half furlong distance (which is the longest racing distance in the UK). These days the fences are lot less demanding, with fallers, unseats and casualties far far lower as a result. As a consequence, huge shocks are much rarer, and the winner can usually be found in the form-book, with previous Aintree experience always counting for plenty.

Aintree 5:15 (UK time)
Ted Walsh’s 11-y-o has topweight to lump as he makes a third bid for Grand National glory, but he clearly relishes the unique test provided by these fences in a strongly run race, and comes into the 2023 renewal at the very top of his game after winning a Navan Grade 2 in March. He finished third behind Minella Times in 2021 (traveling like the winner until the long run-in), and caught the proverbial tartar in the well handicapped Noble Yeats in 2022. Another big run seems on the cards, and he makes maximum each-way appeal at around the 14/1 mark at the moment.

Aintree 4:15 (UK time)
Charlie Longsden’s bold jumping handicapper really impressed when winning a hot Sandown contest one start back, making most of the running and fending off a series of challengers up the final stamina sapping climb. He shaped better than the bare result when well held in the Grimthrope at Doncaster last time out, and could be just the type to excel over these demanding fences under regular rider Paul O’Brien.
Odds: NA

ITV Racing Tips – Saturday April 15th
Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
2:25 | Aintree | Harbour Lake | Alan King’s handicapper got his career back on track with a cracking fourth at Kempton last time out, and the emphasis on stamina on softer ground is expected to suit ideally at Aintree on Saturday. He is more of a galloper than a quickener, and this extended three mile trip can unlock improvement under the excellent Tom Cannon. |
3:00 | Aintree | Authorised Speed | Gary Moore has his team in blistering form at the moment, and his battle-hardened novice has already proven himself in testing ground with three wins so far over hurdles. He showed a tenacious attitude under a positive ride at Sandown last time out, and the long Aintree straight over 2m4f could bring about more improvement now upped to Grade 1 company. |
3:35 | Aintree | Teahupoo | Gordon Elliott’s high class 6-y-o was heavily backed down to 9/4f in the Stayers Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, and arguably was a shade unlucky not to land the spoils behind the course specialist Sire du Berlais. He has a career record of 8 wins from 12 starts over hurdles, and remains with potential granted a thorough test of stamina (just two runs over this three miles trip). |
4:15 | Aintree | Castle Robin | Charlie Longsden’s bold jumping handicapper really impressed when winning a hot Sandown contest one start back, making most of the running and fending off a series of challengers up the final stamina sapping climb. He shaped better than the bare result when well held in the Grimthrope at Doncaster last time out, and could be just the type to excel over these demanding fences under regular rider Paul O’Brien. |
