There are 8 races covered by the ITV cameras on Saturday featuring top class NH racing from Ascot and Wetherby, and the field sizes are sure to be much larger and more competitive now that the rain has finally arrived to ease the ground conditions. In terms of quality, there are two fascinating Grade 2 contests at Wetherby, with the Charlie Hall Chase at 3.35pm likely to attract most of the betting interest.
Unfortunately the likely favourite Shan Blue misses the race after incurring a stone bruise at home on the gallops, but plenty of eyes are likely to be on Win my Wings (who is likely to be heading to the Aintree Grand National in April).
The bet365 hurdle over three miles at 3.00pm gives punters an early sighter of some of the leading stayers this winter, while at Ascot there are four valuable handicaps that all the top UK yards will be targeting with some progressive performers.
In this artice:
Major Dundee
Ascot 3:15 (UK time)
Alan King’s unexposed stayer is open to plenty of improvement this season after just four runs over fences so far, and he ran really well when last seen out in the Scottish Grand National over four miles in April. The drop back to three miles should be no inconvenience if ridden positively from the tape by Tom Cannon, and the eased ground should be ideal judged by his efforts at Bangor and Newbury.
Odds: NA
Cobblers Dream
Ascot 1:30 (UK time)
Ben Case’s three time winning hurdler is very much a chaser on looks, and he is sure to be extensively schooled ahead of this chasing debut at Ascot on Saturday. He goes particularly well with a bit of cut in the ground, and the recent rain easing conditions should suit ideally over this 2m3f trip (with the short priced favourite Goshen unlikely to represent any value given all of his quirks).
Odds: NA
Odds are best odds available as at 9am October 28th 2022. Odds may now differ.
Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:30 | Ascot | Cobblers Dream | Ben Case’s three time winning hurdler is very much a chaser on looks, and he is sure to be extensively schooled ahead of this chasing debut at Ascot on Saturday. He goes particularly well with a bit of cut in the ground, and the recent rain easing conditions should suit ideally over this 2m3f trip (with the short priced favourite Goshen unlikely to represent any value given all of his quirks). |
1:50 | Wetherby | Hall Lane | Alan King’s unexposed type is very much a young hurdler to follow this winter, and he is sure to be primed to make a winning start over timber (with this stiffer test of stamina certain to suit judged on how he shaped on his racecourse debut at Kempton in March). |
2:05 | Ascot | Call of the Wild | This progressive performer won 2 of his 4 starts over hurdles last season at a fair level, and now makes his handicap debut at Ascot from a potentially lenient opening mark. He is a smooth traveller who needs settling in the early stages, so this big field and likely decent pace should suit ideally first time out. |
2:25 | Wetherby | Martello Sky | Lucy Wadham’s stable star has won 6 of her 9 starts so far over hurdles, and shaped a lot better than the bare result when last seen out in the Close Brothers mares hurdle at the Cheltenham festival. She has optimum conditions for this seasonal reappearance, with her high cruising speed well served by the flat galloping nature of Wetherby on eased decent ground. |
2:40 | Ascot | Before Midnight | Lucy Wadham’s stable star has won 6 of her 9 starts so far over hurdles, and shaped a lot better than the bare result when last seen out in the Close Brothers mares hurdle at the Cheltenham festival. She has optimum conditions for this seasonal reappearance, with her high cruising speed well served by the flat galloping nature of Wetherby on eased decent ground. |
3:00 | Wetherby | Proschema | Dan Skelton’s useful sort shaped well up to a point on his return from four months off at Chepstow, travelling well on the bridle but weakening before the last behind the smart Knappers Hill. This three mile test is a lot more suitable, and he looked a rather unlucky loser when finishing second behind Indefatigable in the 2021 renewal of this race. |
3:15 | Ascot | Major Dundee | Alan King’s unexposed stayer is open to plenty of improvement this season after just four runs over fences so far, and he ran really well when last seen out in the Scottish Grand National over four miles in April. The drop back to three miles should be no inconvenience if ridden positively from the tape by Tom Cannon, and the eased ground should be ideal judged by his efforts at Bangor and Newbury. |
3:35 | Wetherby | Bracemansgame | “Paul Nicholls has never made any secret of the regard in which he holds this strapping young chaser, and he is sure to be primed to bounce back to his best after disappointing on his final start behind Ahoy Senor at Aintree in April. He lost his unbeaten record there over fences (had looked a brilliant jumper in winning his first four starts over the larger obstacles), but a bold front-running ride from Harry Cobden round here is likely to soon have these rivals in trouble (with the yard now hitting top form in the past week). |
