A very busy day for ITV racing fans on Saturday, with the cameras covering the best of the action from three tracks and some top class action both on the flat and over jumps. Cheltenham will be the focus of most of the betting interest, with three cracking handicaps sure to be extremely competitive now that the welcome rain has finally arrived to ease the ground conditions. The flat season is very much coming to a close in terms of quality, but there are still some fascinating entries for the St Simon Stakes at Newbury and the Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster.
In this artice:
Editeur Due Gite
Cheltenham 3:15 (UK time)
Gary Moore’s bold frontrunner has won 4 of his 13 career starts over fences, and showed last season that this course and distance suits ideally. He is sure to be primed for a winning return with the yard hitting form, and an attacking ride should soon have most of these inferior rivals off the bridle and out of their comfort zone.
Odds: NA
The Hollow Ginge
Cheltenham 2:05 (UK time)
Nigel Twiston-Davies 9-y-o has won just 2 of his 16 starts over fences, but is dangerously well handicapped on the pick of his form and fresh first time out could be the time to catch him. He takes plenty of driving to get motivated, but his proven stamina could count for plenty up the final climb under Sam Twiston-Davies.
Odds: NA
Odds are best odds available as at 9am October 21st 2022. Odds may now differ.
Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:50 | Newbury | Striking Star | Charlie Appleby’s juvenile landed strong support when making a winning debut in September at Sandown, and there should be plenty more improvement in the tank with that initial experience under his belt. The yard continues to maintain a brilliant strike rate as the flat season draws to a close, and William Buick is riding at the very height of his powers as champion jockey-elect. |
2:05 | Cheltenham | The Hollow Ginge | Nigel Twiston-Davies 9-y-o has won just 2 of his 16 starts over fences, but is dangerously well handicapped on the pick of his form and fresh first time out could be the time to catch him. He takes plenty of driving to get motivated, but his proven stamina could count for plenty up the final climb under Sam Twiston-Davies. |
2:25 | Newbury | Lone Eagle | “Martyn and Freddie Meade’s useful performer ran with credit behind the subsequent Arc winner Aplinista last time out at Saint Cloud in July, and his freshness at this stage of the season should count for plenty after just two runs earlier in the season. |
2:40 | Cheltenham | Pied Piper | Gordon Elliott’s 4-y-o produced form at the highest level as a juvenile, and has plenty of size and scope to keep on improving this winter. He is a smooth traveller with a smart turn of foot, who has already proved himself over this tricky course and distance, and seems sure to be 100pc for this valuable prize on his return to the fray under Jack Kennedy. |
3:00 | Doncaster | Aesops Fables | Aidan O’Brien’s juvenile had created a deep impression in winning his first two career starts at Navan and the Curragh, and has shaped better than the bare result in Group 1 company the last twice. He will relish a step down in class into listed company at Doncaster on Saturday, and a positive ride from Ryan Moore is on the cards now back to six furlongs. |
3:15 | Cheltenham | Editeur Due Gite | Gary Moore’s bold frontrunner has won 4 of his 13 career starts over fences, and showed last season that this course and distance suits ideally. He is sure to be primed for a winning return with the yard hitting form, and an attacking ride should soon have most of these inferior rivals off the bridle and out of their comfort zone. |
3:35 | Doncaster | Auguste Robin | Aidan O’Brien had a very strong hand at the declarations stage for this valuable Group 1 prize, and it looks significant that this progressive juvenile has been the one to attract all the right cash in the last couple of days (with Ryan Moore likely to have had the pick). |
3:50 | Cheltenham | Botox Has | Gary Moore has his team in top form as the season proper gets underway, and his useful hurdler seems sure to be fit enough to do himself justice after 8 months on the sidelines. |
4:10 | Doncaster | Justanotherbottle | This pacey sprinter has largely run with credit since winning in style at Ripon in June, and he can be forgiven a lesser effort when finishing last of 5 in a muddling Musselburgh contest last time out. The booking of the talented claimer Oisin McSweeney increases confidence, with his 5lb very valuable when the margins are so tight in these hotly contested sprint handicaps. |
