Saturday’s Horse Racing Tips: Epsom, June 3rd

Today’s Racing Tips – June 3rd
The ITV cameras hone in on Epsom on Saturday, with a top class card shown in full from start to finish (albeit with rearranged times to avoid clashing with the all-Manchester FA Cup final later in the afternoon). The Betfred Derby is undoubtedly the highlight of the afternoon at 1.30pm, with the 2023 renewal looking wide open and no standout contender emerging from the trials over the last couple of months (many of which have been run on much softer ground than is likely this afternoon).

Today’s Daily Nap
Passenger
Epsom 1:30 (UK time)
Sir Michael Stoute knows exactly what it takes to win an Epsom Derby, and it looks very significant that he has chosen to supplement this progressive 3-y-o at great expense on Monday. He caught they eye when finishing fourth behind The Foxes in the Dante at York last month, seeing no daylight at all/finishing with running left in the tank, and the step up to 1m4f seems sure to unlock plenty more improvement.
Odds: NA
Today’s Value Angle
Kolsai
Epsom 12:50 (UK time)
Roger Varian’s unexposed 3-y-o has run well in defeat twice already this season at Goodwood and Newmarket, and the faster ground conditions expected at Epsom on Saturday should see him improve further now upped to Group 3 company.
Odds: NA
Odds are best odds available as at 9am June 2nd 2023. Odds may now differ.
ITV Racing Tips – Saturday June 3rd
Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
12:50 | Epsom | Kolsai | Roger Varian’s unexposed 3-y-o has run well in defeat twice already this season at Goodwood and Newmarket, and the faster ground conditions expected at Epsom on Saturday should see him improve further now upped to Group 3 company. |
1:30 | Epsom | Passenger | Sir Michael Stoute knows exactly what it takes to win an Epsom Derby, and it looks very significant that he has chosen to supplement this progressive 3-y-o at great expense on Monday. He caught they eye when finishing fourth behind The Foxes in the Dante at York last month, seeing no daylight at all/finishing with running left in the tank, and the step up to 1m4f seems sure to unlock plenty more improvement. |
2:10 | Epsom | Astral | Pam Sly does really well under both codes with limited ammunition, and her consistent handicapper should relish a return to a mile here after struggling to get home on testing ground at Newmarket last time out. |
2:45 | Epsom | JM Jungle | John Quinn and Jason Hart are a formidable combination in these valuable Saturday handicaps, and they team up in the prestigious Dash with this progressive speedball. He ran really well in a huge field at York last time out, and this rapid five furlongs should be just up his street. |
3:20 | Epsom | Silky Wilkie | Karl Burke has his team in brilliant form, and this 3-y-o shaped really well on the “wrong side” of the track when fifth on soft ground at Newmarket last time out. He will relish these much quicker conditions under Clifford Lee, and is sure to be ridden positively from the stalls in this valuable heritage handicap. |
3:55 | Epsom | Kadovar | Andrew Balding’s handicapper has vital winning Epsom form in the book, and can be excused a lesser effort on testing ground at Newmarket last time out. The booking of William Buick increases confidence, and this step up in trip to 1m2f promises to unlock more improvement after just six career starts on the turf so far. |
4:30 | Epsom | Cauis Chorister | David Menuisier’s useful performer returned with a cracking effort over 1m2f here last month, and he is entitled to improve a touch fitness-wise with that run under his belt. The booking of Ryan Moore certainly catches the eye, and rapidly drying conditions should help his stamina last over the 1m4f trip. |
5:05 | Epsom | Baldomero | Mick Appleby’s battle hardened sprint handicapper has a career record of just 2 wins from 27 starts, but he has been running well in defeat on both the all-weather and turf this season, and seems sure to go well again with conditions to suit under Jason Watson. |
