There are 8 races live on ITV on Saturday, with the final day of the Glorious Goodwood meeting supported by some cracking and competitive action from Newmarket. The Stewards Cup at 3.20pm is likely to be the big betting race of the afternoon, with some high class sprint handicappers setting punters a stern test and a maximum field size assured for the excellent prize money on offer.
This has been something of a bookmakers benefit over the years, with some huge priced outsiders popping up, and astute punters are recommended to look for layers offering extra places (six or more are likely to be on offer).

Viola
Goodwood 2:45 (UK time)
James Fanshawe’s mare has won 4 of her 16 career starts to date, and has shaped really well in defeat at Haydock and Newmarket in recent months (closely matched with Sea La Rosa). She has refused to settle initially on each occasion, never really landing a blow last time out wide in a useful listed contest, and represents terrific value here at the current prices now upped to a Group 2 under Daniel Muscutt.
Odds: NA
Boss Power
Goodwood 2:10 (UK time)
Sir Michael Stoute’s 5-y-o lurks on a very attractive handicap mark now after a largely disappointing summer, and he can put behind him a lesser effort at Chelmsford last time out (awkward leaving the stalls there and easy to excuse a poor run at that venue). He caught the eye in defeat at both Ascot and Epsom earlier in the season, and the booking of the excellent claimer Harry Davies for the first time very much increases confidence he will go close if enjoying any luck in running from rear.
Odds: NA

Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:05 | Goodwood | Classic | Richard Hannon’s juveniles always improve dramatically for their initial experience, and this scopey Dubawi colt showed plenty of promise after a slow break when making his debut at Newbury 15 days ago. He has loads of scope to progress as he matures, and this maiden looks a terrific opening under Pat Dobbs. |
1:40 | Goodwood | Mitrosonfire | This sprint handicapper caught the eye under a negative ride at Ascot last time out, and the assured strong pace in this big field should set things up nicely for his customary late charge. |
1:55 | Newmarket | Fox Degree | Ralph Beckett’s filly showed improved form on handicap debut to get off the mark at Ffos Las 19 days ago, and remains with upside after just four career starts (much more settled last time and a bigger field should help here). |
2:10 | Goodwood | Boss Power | Sir Michael Stoute’s 5-y-o lurks on a very attractive handicap mark now after a largely disappointing summer, and he can put behind him a lesser effort at Chelmsford last time out (awkward leaving the stalls there and easy to excuse a poor run at that venue). He caught the eye in defeat at both Ascot and Epsom earlier in the season, and the booking of the excellent claimer Harry Davies for the first time very much increases confidence he will go close if enjoying any luck in running from rear. |
2:25 | Newmarket | Elegant Verse | John and Thady Gosden continue in brilliant form with 7 winners in the last 14 days at a strike rate nudging 25pc, and their filly looks one to follow up into listed company at Newmarket on Saturday. She pulled her chance away last time at Newbury in a muddling contest, but remains with potential after just three career starts and should relish this 1m4f trip if proving more tractable in the early stages under Frankie Dettori. |
2:45 | Goodwood | Viola | James Fanshawe’s mare has won 4 of her 16 career starts to date, and has shaped really well in defeat at Haydock and Newmarket in recent months (closely matched with Sea La Rosa). She has refused to settle initially on each occasion, never really landing a blow last time out wide in a useful listed contest, and represents terrific value here at the current prices now upped to a Group 2 under Daniel Muscutt. |
3:20 | Goodwood | Chil Chil | Andrew Balding’s mare has a touch of class in these competitive top level sprint handicaps, and she is sure to be a lot fitter for her first run in ten months aT Newbury 14 days ago (free in rear and not knocked about when held). She now has Harry Davies taking over in the saddle, and seems sure to go close if seeing any daylight when it matters from the furlong pole. |
3:55 | Goodwood | Gisburn | Richard Hannon’s 3-y-o has disappointed twice in big fields at York and Newmarket since a promising effort at Leicester in June, and might be worth chancing now upped to seven furlongs from a slightly reduced mark. |
