Saturday’s ITV cameras bring the best of the turf action from Beverley and Haydock, with the ground finally drying out after a warm week of settled weather across the country. There is a brilliant mix of Group race action alongside typically competitive handicaps throughout the afternoon, and the top Newmarket yards are sure to be well represented for the excellent prize money on offer.
In this article:
WITCH HUNTER
Haydock 3.35 (UK time)
Richard Hannon’s useful performer has not been easy to place in recent runs, but this Group 3 represents a drop down in class and he can capitalise under the excellent Sean Levey. He caught the eye from miles off the pace behind Audience in the Group 1 Lockinge at Newbury last month, staying on strongly to take a never dangerous third, and much more positive tactics are likely here now back in trip to seven furlongs.
Odds: 6.00
BRAZILIAN BELLE
Beverley 2.05 (UK time)
Michael Dods filly improved dramatically on her promising debut when getting off the mark last month at Catterick (very strong at the finish despite a bump leaving the stalls/forced to race wide going freely), and can take another step forward at Beverley on Saturday. The stiffer nature of this track is a definite plus, and she can overpower these up the hill under Paul Mulrennan.
Odds: 7.00
Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:50 | Haydock | BELIEVING | George Boughey’s filly needs genuinely fast ground to be seen at her best, and the drying week of weather has come just at the right time ahead of her Haydock return (41 days on from an unsuccessful run at Sha-Tin). |
2:05 | Beverley | BRAZILIAN BELLE | Michael Dods filly improved dramatically on her promising debut when getting off the mark last month at Catterick (very strong at the finish despite a bump leaving the stalls/forced to race wide going freely), and can take another step forward at Beverley on Saturday. The stiffer nature of this track is a definite plus, and she can overpower these up the hill under Paul Mulrennan. |
2:25 | Haydock | MAGHLAAK | Charlie Hills unexposed handicapper looked one to follow up the weights when winning readily at Goodwood in May, and probably did not handle the track when disappointing at Redcar last time out. |
2:40 | Beverley | MOVING FORCE | Richard Fahey’s juvenile created a deep impression when making a winning debut at this tricky course and distance, and can handle the jump up in class back here under Oisin Orr. |
3:00 | Haydock | LADY BOBA | Ralph Beckett’s filly progressed run to run mast season, and this valuable Group 3 prize looks an excellent starting point for her 3-y-o career. She seems sure to be primed for this valuable prize with the yard hitting top form, and her turn of foot on quickening ground should be a real asset at the business end of this 1m4f contest. |
3:15 | Beverley | BROKEN SPEAR | Tony Coyle’s handicapper is running himself fit from a gradually falling mark so far this season, and should relish the stiff uphill finish over this extended seven furlong trip. |
3:35 | Haydock | WITCH HUNTER | Richard Hannon’s useful performer has not been easy to place in recent runs, but this Group 3 represents a drop down in class and he can capitalise under the excellent Sean Levey. He caught the eye from miles off the pace behind Audience in the Group 1 Lockinge at Newbury last month, staying on strongly to take a never dangerous third, and much more positive tactics are likely here now back in trip to seven furlongs. |
