Saturday's Horse Racing Tips: July 16th

Today’s Racing Tips – July 16th
The ITV cameras are at Newbury and Market Rasen on Saturday, with some top class flat racing combined with the ultra-competitive and valuable jumps meeting that is the highlight of the whole summer over sticks. The big betting race on the turf is at 3.30pm, where the Weatherbys Super Sprint always attracts a huge field of smart juveniles with the excellent prize money on offer. The Group 3 Hackwood Stakes at 2.56pm looks a cracking renewal, with runners from all the top yards represented and the Royal Ascot formlines sure to be tested.
Today’s Daily Nap
Diligent Harry
Newbury 2:56pm
Clive Cox’s useful sprinter shaped really well on his seasonal reappearance at Doncaster in the Cambridge, and had little chance as things panned out at the Royal meeting (three places behind Alcohol Free who has franked the form in style since last weekend). He has a high cruising speed when settling properly, and this Group 3 represents a marked drop down in class on fast ground that suits ideally.
Odds: 15.00
Today’s Value Angle
Eddies Boy
Newbury 3:30pm
Archie Watson’s 2-y-o comes into this valuable Super Sprint with cracking efforts at Royal Ascot and Sandown in the book, and he should relish this flat five furlongs after rather hanging his chance away up the Esher hill last time out (behind the very smart Rocket Rodney).
Odds: 9.00
Odds are best odds available as at 8pm July 15th 2022. Odds may now differ.
Saturday ITV Racing Tips – July 16th
Time | Track | Selection | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:50 | NEWBURY | CADILLAC | Kevin Phillapart de Foy is very much a trainer to follow in the next few seasons, and his progressive performer comes into this valuable listed prize on the back of a cracking effort in the Wolferton at the Royal meeting. He was sent off a well backed 11/2f there in a huge field, but rather compromised his chance by pulling hard in the early stages, and did very well in the circumstances to finish second over this trip. |
2:06 | MARKET RASEN | GALILEO SILVER | Sam Thomas’s versatile performer returned to his very best last month, and has optimum conditions again here to defy a raised handicap mark under the red hot Sam Twiston-Davies . |
2.21 | NEWBURY | WITHHOLD | Harry and Roger Charlton’s classy stayer needed the run on his seasonal reappearance at Chester 35 days ago, setting a modest pace and weakening out of things a furlong out. That should put him spot on for this class 2 handicap, and winning form over this course and distance in the past is a positive to his chance of bouncing back to winning form under James Doyle. |
2:41 | MARKET RASEN | CIRQUE ROYAL | This useful Irish raider has now won 2 of his starts over hurdles, not off the bridle at Kelso and Perth in recent weeks, and this looks a very good opening now going handicapping from a potentially lenient opening mark. |
2:56 | NEWBURY | DILIGENT HARRY | Clive Cox’s useful sprinter shaped really well on his seasonal reappearance at Doncaster in the Cambridge, and had little chance as things panned out at the Royal meeting (three places behind Alcohol Free who has franked the form in style since last weekend). He has a high cruising speed when settling properly, and this Group 3 represents a marked drop down in class on fast ground that suits ideally. |
3:14 | MARKET RASEN | MAHLERS PROMISE | Seamus Mullins always does well with a small team over the summer months, and this progressive chaser impressed with his sound jumping under a positive ride last time out. This represents a step up in class in a bigger field for the Summer Plate, but he relishes quick ground and is relatively lightly raced for his age. |
3:30 | NEWBURY | EDDIES BOY | Archie Watson’s 2-y-o comes into this valuable Super Sprint with cracking efforts at Royal Ascot and Sandown in the book, and he should relish this flat five furlongs after rather hanging his chance away up the Esher hill last time out (behind the very smart Rocket Rodney). |
