Today’s Racing Tips – August 17th

Saturday’s ITV cameras have the best of the turf action from Newbury, Newmarket and Ripon, with fast summer ground across the country and some very competitive fields for the excellent prize money on offer. There are two cracking Group races from the Berkshire venue to study, while a massive crowd is certain at Ripon for their biggest meeting of the season.

Today’s Daily Nap

SPANISH BLAZE

Newbury 3.00 (UK time)

Marcus Tregoning’s handicapper still looked ahead of the game when running really well in defeat at Glorious Goodwood over a mile earlier in the month, and this drop back to seven furlongs should be no issue at all under Hayley Turner. He has now won 3 from 10 on the turf, and remains with some upside after undergoing a gelding operation in the close season.

Odds: 7.00

Today’s Value Angle

KIKKULI

Newbury 3.35 (UK time)

Harry Charlton’s progressive 3-y-o had been thriving until sent over to Deauville last time out, possibly finding the soft underfoot conditions against him there when only sixth behind Puchkine. He ran a cracker when second to Haatem in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot previously, and a repeat of that form would be enough to land this valuable Group 2 prize under Oisin Murphy.

ITV Racing Tips – Saturday August 17th

Time (UK) Track Horse Analysis
1:50 Newbury AL AASY William Haggas’s smart performer has returned better than ever at the age of 7 so far this season, and has too much speed for these rivals form the stalls under Jim Crowley. He showed a terrific turn of foot to assert late at Goodwood last time out under a very confident ride from rear, and the prevailing quick summer ground conditions should suit ideally.
2:05 Newmarket GRENHAM BAY Andrew Balding’s sprinter shaped a lot better than the bare result when seventh in a hot contest at Windsor last time out, refusing to settle as he duelled on the lead and fading from the furlong pole. He is entitled to sharpen up fitness-wise for that first run in three months, and can make all the running here under the promising 3lb claimer Callum Hutchinson.
2:25 Newbury MC LOVEN Simon Dow’s progressive sprinter posed a career best effort when fourth in a huge field at Goodwood last time out, ducking right leaving the stalls but showing terrific early pace to lead until inside the final furlong. He did hang there on the undulations, so this flat track on fast summer ground should be a lot more suitable under Paddy Bradley.
2:45 Ripon FORTAMOUR Ben Haslam is very much a young trainer to keep on side of over the next few years, and he has his team in top form at the moment with two winners in the last fortnight at a 33pc strike rate. His useful handicapper has now won 7 of his 38 career starts on the turf, and posted a cracking effort when winning from the front over this tricky course and distance last time out.
3:00 Newbury SPANISH BLAZE Marcus Tregoning’s handicapper still looked ahead of the game when running really well in defeat at Glorious Goodwood over a mile earlier in the month, and this drop back to seven furlongs should be no issue at all under Hayley Turner. He has now won 3 from 10 on the turf, and remains with some upside after undergoing a gelding operation in the close season.
3:20 Ripon MR WAGYU This tough and battle hardened sprinter has largely been running with credit in defeat all summer in these huge field Saturday sprints, and his customary early speed could be a real asset here on quick ground under the excellent Jason Hart.
3:35 Newbury KIKKULI Harry Charlton’s progressive 3-y-o had been thriving until sent over to Deauville last time out, possibly finding the soft underfoot conditions against him there when only sixth behind Puchkine. He ran a cracker when second to Haatem in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot previously, and a repeat of that form would be enough to land this valuable Group 2 prize under Oisin Murphy.
