There are five scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with NH fans in for an informative afternoon as the three day Aintree Grand National meeting gets underway. They also have Limerick and Taunton to study on testing ground, with some decent handicaps to try to solve at the Somerset venue (and Paul Nicholls sure to be well represented). AW fans have low grade action to study at Chelmsford and Southwell, with the lights coming on at 5.30pm at the Essex track and the handicaps looking especially competitive for the time of year.

Blow Your Wad
Aintree 1.45 (UK time)
Tom Lacey’s progressive young chaser has already won twice over fences this winter, really impressing with his sound jumping when readily landing hefty market confidence at Kempton in February. He has been kept fresh for Aintree since then, and remains open to plenty more improvement after just four starts in this sphere (with a strong gallop on soft ground sure to set things up ideally for a patient ride from Stan Sheppard).
Odds: 4.50
Nurburgring
Aintree 2.05 (UK time)
Joseph O’Brien’s useful juvenile was very strongly fancied for the Triumph hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March by his astute connections, but never landed a blow from rear under a negative ride (stayed on from an impossible position when finally asked to close). He should relish the demands of the long Aintree straight on soft ground, and seems sure to be ridden a lot more positively on this occasion (with stamina assured for this 2m1f trip).
Odds: 9.00
