There are six scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with flat fans in for an informative and busy afternoon/evening. They have Catterick, Chelmsford (AW), Lingfield and Sandown to study on quickening ground, with some tough handicaps and the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard to try to solve at the Esher venue (and the top Newmarket yards sure to be well represented). Jumping fans have lower grade action to study at Limerick and Market Rasen, with big fields at both tracks and the handicaps looking especially competitive for the time of year.
In this article:
Birkenhead
Catterick 2.40 (UK time)
Paul Midgeley’s speedy veteran handicapper returned to his recent best form at this track last time out when well backed, and can bounce back to winning form here under regular rider David Nolan. He will relish the decent quickening ground conditions in a typically moderate Class 6 sprint, with a bold attacking ride from the front always a good plan of attack at this sharpest of tracks.
Odds: 4.50
Brazilian Belle
Catterick 2.10 (UK time)
Michael Dods has his team in excellent form at the moment with eight winners in the last fortnight, and his unexposed 2-y-o should improve a good deal fitter for her Thirsk debut earlier in the month (faded in the last 100 yards having made a hash of the start under a quiet ride from rear in a better race). She showed plenty of speed there to suggest this sharpest of five furlongs should suit, and a positive ride is on the cards from Connor Beasley.
Odds: 4.00
