There are seven scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with flat fans in for a busy afternoon and evening of varied action. They have Bellewstown, Haydock, Kempton, Newbury and Yarmouth to study, with some tough handicaps to try to solve at the Berkshire venue on fast summer ground. Jumping followers have Perth and Tipperary to study, with plenty of water applied at the Scottish track to ensure decent field sizes.

Secret Mistral
Haydock 2.40 (UK time)
Tony Carroll has his team in terrific form at the moment, with 7 winners in the last fortnight at a 20pc strike rate, and his unexposed filly looked a sprinter to follow when winning over this course and distance on her seasonal reappearance last month (making all up the centre of the track). A raised mark demands more, but she has terrific early speed at her disposal and should take plenty of passing again on the rapidly quickening ground.
Odds: 5.50
Grant Wood
Haydock 3.40 (UK time)
Paul Midgeley’s sprinter landed a wholesale plunge when winning over course and distance last month, and he is worth sticking with back at Haydock on Thursday from a 4lb higher mark. The return to sprinting really suited there (despite a troubled run through), and he remains with upside in this sphere against some opposable rivals (with the yard finally back in the groove with 4 winners in the last fortnight).
Odds: 5.00
