Thursday’s Horse Racing Tips: York, May 18th

Today’s Horse Racing Tips – May 18th
There are six meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with competitive handicaps and classy Group races very much the order of the day at York on the flat (as the popular Dante meeting continues). The big race of the afternoon is the Group 2 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Stakes, which has typically attracted runners from all the major yards. There are supporting flat cards at Newmarket and Salisbury, while NH fans have cards at Fontwell, Perth and Tipperary to get stuck into.

Epictetus
York 3:35 (UK time)
John and Thady Gosden’s progressive 3-y-o was only workmanlike in landing the odds at Epsom on his seasonal reappearance, but he hated the deep testing ground there and is likely to leave the bare form behind now on decent ground at York on Thursday. He is a smooth traveller with a sharp turn of foot (who is very high up the pecking order at home), and there should still be plenty more improvement in the tank after just four career starts.

Michael Dods useful 6-y-o handicapper ran a screamer on his seasonal debut when second in a warm listed prize at Doncaster (all from the yard been needing a run or two), and he had excuses in deep ground at Newbury last time out. He will relish the better ground expected on the Knavesmire, and the drop back to an extended seven furlongs should suit ideally with regular rider Connor Beasley back in the saddle.
Odds: NA
