A very quiet day of racing in the UK on Monday, with the very hot weather forecast meaning only the meetings at Ayr, Ballinrobe and Cartmel survive. The BHA sensibly took an early decision with the other two scheduled fixtures, with temperatures expected to be in the mid 30s by midday across the country.

Richard Spencer’s 2-y-o shaped really well on his debut at Newbury in a strong looking maiden won by Isaac Shelby, and that form has been franked superbly since by the winner following up in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket last weekend. He is open to loads of improvement with that initial experience under his belt, and can get off the mark at the second attempt at Ayr on Monday.

Jim Goldie’s handicapper impressed under a canny ride over this course and distance last time out, and a 4lb higher mark should not be enough to stop him following up with conditions to suit. He can take a bit of settling and needs the cards to fall right, but should get plenty of cover here (with lots of pace on up front), and can swoop late again under Paul Mulrennan.
