Today’s Racing Tips – July 2nd

There are 7 fascinating races covered by the ITV cameras on Saturday, with the very best of the action at Haydock and Sandown. Both tracks will have been watering to try and maintain good ground, with the recent dry spell showing no sign of coming to an end. The feature race of the afternoon comes at the Esher venue, with the Coral Eclipse at 3.35pm boasting a rich history of top class middle distance performers. The Classic and Royal Ascot form is always put to the test, and this years entry contains Native Trail and Bay Bridge to name but two solid Group 1 winners. There are also some cracking handicaps that set punters a stern puzzle, with the Old Newton Cup at 3.15 usually attracting a big field of progressive middle distance four year olds (and upwards).

Today’s Daily Nap

Bay Bridge

Sandown 3:35pm

Sir Michael Stoute’s 4-y-o was rather undone by a tactical contest in the Group 1 Prince of Wales at the Royal meeting, unable to get past the front-running State of Rest after a terrific battle up the straight. This stiffer track plays to his strengths, as he showed when winning the Brigadier Gerard in style in May over course and distance.

Odds: 5.00

Today’s Value Angle

Grande Dame

Sandown 3:00pm

John and Thady Gosden have their team in typically brilliant form as the summer season gets into full flow, with 9 winners in the last 14 days at a 21pc strike rate, and this rapidly progressing filly shaped a lot better than the bare result behind stablemate Inspiral at Royal Ascot 15 days ago. There is plenty more improvement in the tank after just three career starts, and the stiff uphill finish at Sandown should be ideal under Ryan Moore.

Odds: 4.50

Odds are best odds available as at 3pm July 1st 2022. Odds may now differ.

Time Track Selection Analysis
1:50 SANDOWN ARECIBO Robert Cowell’s Sandown specialist had no chance at 80/1 in the Kings Stand at Royal Ascot last time out, but he had shaped well previously in the Temple Stakes at Haydock when an eyecatching third, and this Group 3 represents a big drop back in class with conditions to suit.
2:05 HAYDOCK ACHNAMARA Mark Johnston’s handicapper had been progressing nicely until finding Royal Ascot too much last time out, and this return to calmer waters can see him return to his best form under Jason Hart.
2.25 SANDOWN LION TOWER Grant Tuer’s handicapper has a terrific record, with 7 wins from 28 career starts, and he comes into this competitive contest at the very top of his game after winning in style at York 21 days ago.
2:40 HAYDOCK STAY ALERT Hughie Morrison’s filly has been brought along with typical patience by her astute trainer, and she impressed when landing a valuable listed contest at Newbury 23 days ago. Her previous second behind Nashwa has been franked in style since at the highest level, and she is ready herself for a step up into Group 2 company at Haydock on Saturday.
3:00 SANDOWN GRANDE DAME John and Thady Gosden have their team in typically brilliant form as the summer season gets into full flow, with 9 winners in the last 14 days at a 21pc strike rate, and this rapidly progressing filly shaped a lot better than the bare result behind stablemate Inspiral at Royal Ascot 15 days ago. There is plenty more improvement in the tank after just three career starts, and the stiff uphill finish at Sandown should be ideal under Ryan Moore.
3:15 HAYDOCK LIVERPOOL KNIGHT Kevin Phillapart De Foy is very much a trainer to follow over the next few years, and his progressive handicapper impressed when coming from last to first at Windsor on his seasonal debut 26 days ago. The ground was pretty testing there, but he showed quicker ground was suitable last season and is likely to come forwards for that first run in 7 months (easy to back beforehand).
3:35 SANDOWN BAY BRIDGE Sir Michael Stoute’s 4-y-o was rather undone by a tactical contest in the Group 1 Prince of Wales at the Royal meeting, unable to get past the front-running State of Rest after a terrific battle up the straight. This stiffer track plays to his strengths, as he showed when winning the Brigadier Gerard in style in May over course and distance.
