There is something for everyone on the Saturday at Royal Ascot 2022, with seven compelling televised races on ITV and the betting action sure to be fierce (capacity crowd and all of the off-course bookmakers sure to be offering some terrific value in the morning). The day begins with the 7f Chesham Stakes for juveniles, while the 6f Platinum Jubilee Stakes at 4.20pm provides a terrific opening for older sprinters to win some fantastic prize money at the top level.
The concluding 2m5f Queen Alexandra is one of the longest flat races in the calendar, and often provides an opening for jumps trainers to bring one of their useful hurdlers to compete at the best flat meeting in the world (with their proven stamina counting for plenty).
Hurricane Lane
Royal Ascot 3:40pm
Charlie Appleby’s top class performer has won 6 of his 8 career starts so far, amassing 1.3m in prize money at the highest level, and he is sure to be primed to make a winning reappearance after 258 days on the sidelines. He enjoyed a fantastic summer last season after finishing third in the Epsom Derby in June, and the expected good fast ground should suit his explosive turn of foot perfectly in a substandard renewal of this valuable prize.
Odds: 1.73
Fresh
Royal Ascot 5:00pm
James Fanshawe’s course and distance winner should be spot on for this Heritage Handicap after two cracking runs at Kempton and Ascot already this season, and a drop back to six furlongs should be no issue at all (with a strong pace assured to set things up for his customary late charge).
Odds: 9.00

Time | Track | Selection | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
14:30 | ASCOT | CRYPTO FORCE | Michael Callaghan’s 2-y-o created an immediate impression when coming from nearly last to first to win his maiden at the Curragh at the start of June, and is fancied to cope with this jump up to listed company at Royal Ascot on Saturday. His proven stamina for 7f is a plus, and he is likely to have learnt plenty from that initial experience (sent off a week 14/1 chance by his ultra shrewd connections). |
15:05 | ASCOT | MONAADAH | Saeed Bin Suroor’s progressive 3-y-o has thrived on the all-weather in recent weeks, and now looks ready for a switch to fast turf as he jumps up in class to Group 3 company. He is open to plenty of improvement after just 3 career starts (career only began at Meydan in March this year), and he seems a straightforward ride with a terrific attitude for pressure. |
15:40 | ASCOT | HURRICANE LANE | Charlie Appleby’s top class performer has won 6 of his 8 career starts so far, amassing 1.3m in prize money at the highest level, and he is sure to be primed to make a winning reappearance after 258 days on the sidelines. He enjoyed a fantastic summer last season after finishing third in the Epsom Derby in June, and the expected good fast ground should suit his explosive turn of foot perfectly in a substandard renewal of this valuable prize. |
16:20 | ASCOT | MINZAAL | Owen Burrowes operates on a much smaller scale after losing one of his main owners this season, but he still has some useful performers in the yard, and this cracking sprinter should be sharper for a promising return at York 38 days ago. |
17:00 | ASCOT | FRESH | James Fanshawe’s course and distance winner should be spot on for this Heritage Handicap after two cracking runs at Kempton and Ascot already this season, and a drop back to six furlongs should be no issue at all (with a strong pace assured to set things up for his customary late charge). |
17:35 | ASCOT | PHANTOM FLIGHT | James Horton is very much a young trainer to follow over the next few seasons, and his progressive 3-y-o is fancied to make a winning handicap debut now upped in trip to 1m2f for the first time. He needed every yard of the mile trip when winning at Haydock 29 days ago, the first under pressure turning for home but showing a terrific attitude to lead late, and an opening mark of 95 may well be on the lenient side now his stamina is drawn out. |
18:10 | ASCOT | EARLOFTHECOTSWOLDS | This versatile stayer has an excellent strike rate under all codes, and he will relish every yard of this stamina sapping 2m5f trip on quick ground. |
