A very busy afternoon of televised action, with the ITV cameras at Beverley, Chester and Haydock to cover nine races and the action coming thick and fast. The Hilary Needler at 2.05pm is a race for juveniles with a long history, and often produces a high class filly who goes on to tackle Group company in the future. Over at Haydock, the John O’Gaunt Stakes over seven furlongs will draw runners up from the top southern yards chasing the excellent prize money on offer, while the Group 3 Pinnacle Stakes provides an opening for fillies and mares over the 1m4f trip.

Sir Michael Stoute’s useful filly raced far too freely when disappointing in the Middleton at York last time out, shaping better than the bare result, and should go close here if proving more tractable in the early stages. This represents a slight drop in class, and she showed her customary turn of foot when making a winning reappearance at Nottingham in April.

He shaped well in the frame in just three runs last season, all in warm Group 2 company, and seems sure to be primed after 246 days on the sidelines with conditions to suit.

13:45	HAYDOCK	CLARENDON HOUSE	Robert Cowells prolific sprinter has won 4 of his 8 career starts so far, and went straight into the notebook when finishing fourth at Longchamp 13 days ago (slowly away and saw no daylight at all from halfway, finishing with plenty of running left in the tank). The booking of the excellent Kevin Stott increases confidence, and he has plenty of pace to aim at here if enjoying a clean run through.
14:05	BEVERLEY	PARR FIRE	Nigel Tinkler’s filly looked one to follow when winning on her racecourse debut, and she might just be underrated by the market against some of the bigger yards from the south (with the yard usually leaving plenty to work on first time out).
14:20	HAYDOCK	CONTACT	David Barron has his team now nearing top form after a relatively quiet winter, and this versatile and consistent handicapper looked one to follow up the weights after winning last time out at Newmarket (despite fluffing the start and doing plenty mid race to lead over three furlongs out).
14:40	BEVERLEY	FLAME OF FREEDOM	Eve Johnson Houghton’s filly had been shaping well in defeat until bombing out altogether at Chelmsford last time out (always easy to excuse a poor run at that all-weather venue), and the switch to decent turf can see her bounce back to her best at Beverley on Saturday.

15:45	CHESTER	FOOLS RUSH	Hugo Palmer has made an impressive start since taking over from Tom Dascombe this season (with a handful of heavily backed winners landing the cash), and his previous course and distance winner should sharpen up a touch for his promising reappearance effort 22 days ago.
15:50	BEVERLEY	NIKHI	Jedd O’Keefe’s lightly raced filly had no chance at 50/1 in listed company at Lingfield last time out, but had previously shaped well when second in a fair Newcastle handicap, and this looks a good opening to get off the mark on turf at the fourth attempt .
